I see a thread about this program for a few previous years, but not this current one. The deadline has passed, obviously, but I was hoping to keep in touch with others who have applied so we can compare notes during the selection process. I know I’m likely expecting feedback from the university in mid May but if anything happens before that it’d be nice to have someone to discuss it with. Thank you in advance!
Hey @misamelee! I applied as-well! I hate the waiting game we all play when applying to these schools, but it shouldn’t be too much longer. Do you know if they do phone interviews for everyone??
Also an applicant. @norcalbusiness All veterans get interviews but not all non-vet applicants get interviews.
@butfirstcoffee But is an interview required of all admitted students? It is part of the admissions process??
@norcalbusiness Nope.
An interview could mean you’re one of the top or one of the people who may or may not get in- at least from what I’ve read on here for the past few years’ threads. Not getting one as non-military could mean you’re a shoo-in or not a contestant I think. ): we should all know in another two months max. ):
Interviews are tricky. Sometimes you get an interview because they’re on the fence about you. Sometimes you get one because they really liked you and are just curious to know more. Sometimes you get one just so they can tell you that you got in. It’s really iffy if it means anything or not. Vets are automatically chosen for interviews which is totally fair in my book. I love our nation’s vets!
@butfirstcoffee I agree! Totally fair!
2018 applicant here. @misamelee thanks for creating the discussion.
Where is everyone from this year? What’s your story?
I’m glad I found this thread, thanks for starting it @misamelee ! I have my interview tomorrow, has anyone else had one yet? I’m a transitioning soldier who dropped out of Georgia Southern (looked awesome on the application I bet) for personal reasons back in 2014. Any other veterans/ service members transitioning out who applied?
I just build a group in Telegram, no worried, any new members can see all history messages.

Glad I found this thread too, thank you for sharing! I’m a veteran also - got out in 2016 and finished my associates before applying to the RUE program this spring. I haven’t heard anything from Brown about an interview yet, I hope yours went well jimothyhalpert.
Hey Everyone! Nice to have a group to chat with during this process. I am a retired firefighter (suffered a rough shoulder injury). Finishing my associates degree at a local CC this spring. It has been quiet on my end so far, haven’t heard much from Brown. It is really hard to read into the interview selection, it could mean so many different things. From previous threads, it seemed like people were getting answers the first or second week of May in regards to admission.
Hi everybody! I’m not a vet and no interview request here. Thank you to those of you here who served!
I posted this in another thread ( http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/2060867-brown-resumed-undergraduate-education.html#latest ) but here it is again: I was homeschooled about half of my life, probably more, so no school transcripts. I have my GED and my ACT scores both around 98th percentile but I… Idk, my dream as a kid, before things kind of went to hell, was to go to an Ivy League school. I think the RUE may be my only feasible chance. I don’t want to wait another dozen years or so, you know? I’m already old as heck for a college student.
I want to start ASAP but I don’t believe we were able to choose that in the application. As far as I know, you discuss that with advisers if accepted.
Congratulations to those of you who have/had interviews scheduled! Jimothy, how did yours go?
@jimothyhalpert did they call you or email you for an interview?
I am not a veteran, which makes me feel nervous and less competitive. However, I am really glad that all veterans get to be interviewed. Veterans have so much experience and strength of character.
@misamelee there are a few non-traditional programs offered by Ivy-league institutions, but unfortunately their application deadlines have passed for the upcoming fall semester. In my opinion and in many ways, the RUE program exceeds them all, but you should still check them out. In the mean time, keep the fingers crossed!
I looked at Harvard Extension school and unfortunately shelling out a few grand for a chance to get picked up just isn’t in my budget. Additionally, my biggest draw is my long sad epic of a past, most of which I did not get into here, and I make a little too much to qualify for needs-based programs. I’d be interested to hear if you think any other programs would apply, but even moving for college is likely an impossibility.
Did they call or email you when they first contacted you for an interview? Just wondering.
