Brown RUE 2018

How’s everyone holding up? Heard anything new?

I am just telling myself that this next week is going to be the week I hear something. I hope I am right.

@IndirectProofs they email you. Some of the interviewers are more prompt than others so don’t stress yourself out too much. Just think happy thoughts.

@misamelee My interview went great! The interviewer was very professional and relaxing, and seemed more interested in my story than all the bland, superficial questions that come with any interview.

@jimothyhalpert thanks. I am trying not to stress, but I have worked so hard to get back into school. I’m so discouraged. I don’t even know what to do with myself because I keep wondering when I’ll hear back. It is so hard putting my hopes and dreams into other people’s hands. I hope that this week I’ll hear back from at least one of the programs I’ve applied to.

I haven’t heard anything either. They don’t release decisions for over a month, so I’m trying not to panic just yet. I’m sure they have a lot of military applicants to interview, probably have a very full plate right now. (:

I feel you, though, IP. I’m slowly losing my mind over here. It feels like the entire rest of my life is hanging on this one decision, and I have literally no plan b or any way to soothe myself should I get a rejection. Not yet at least. Working on it.

It has been so hard. Each day I get more and more discouraged.

@IndirectProofs, I really don’t understand why you are nervous and discouraged because it’s not over yet. When you open your application you can still upload the materials (at least I can), so the process is ongoing and there is a month until the final decision. The interview doesn’t mean anything. Maybe you’ll get in without the interview!

For some of us, it’s always panic time P: But yeah, I keep swinging back and forth between reasonable/patient and nervous as heck.

I thought you had to interview in order to be accepted.

" All U.S. military service members and veterans, as well as other selected RUE applicants, will be offered phone interviews."

Nothing in that sentence implies that anyone who is being considered for the program will be interviewed. I am not 100% sure (one of us could probably call the admissions team to confirm? I’ve already called them twice and don’t want to be annoying lol) but I’ve read in previous threads that they only call non-military folks in for an interview if they’re trying to decide if they’re borderline- as in, if they’re trying to decide if they will get in over other people. If you’re a sure admission or definitely not getting in, I don’t believe they will call to interview.

Also, I hate to say it, but they’re only taking 10 people. A hundred usually apply per year. I think last year they only took 9 people for hecks’ sake. There is a 90% chance, all else equal, that each person in this thread won’t get in. It’s not comforting, but if you don’t get in it just means they didn’t think you were the 90th percentile of applicants this year. I’m very concerned that having hardly any college experience will mean they ask me to take a few classes and apply again next year. My essays and ACT scores were great, though. It just… is what it is, I guess.

Well, I thought that sentence does imply that if you’re being considered, you’ll get an interview, but I can probably call them and ask to make sure.

Let me know what they say (:

@IndirectProofs also ask when they think the decision date will be! I need to accept an offer somewhere else by May 1st!

I spoke with them a couple of weeks ago and they confirmed that the decisions will be sent out in mid-May. Is there any way you can accept your other offer by the deadline and just… cancel if Brown takes you?

Here is a link to the website saying much the same.

@misamelee Yeah, I’ll probably end up doing that. Don’t see much of an alternative.

@butfirstcoffee I’ve heard you can ask schools for an extension if needed. So you don’t have to commit until you find out all your offers.

I called, and the person who answered did not know if all accepted applicants get interviews. I was told to email someone else, and did, but have not gotten a response.

@IndirectProofs,
this is the comment from 2016:

This is pretty late, but I just wanted to post this in case someone applying next year was nervous about not having an interview. All of my friends were interviewed for Brown and I wasn’t. I got in, they didn’t. Whether or not you get an interview has nothing to do with your chances of getting in, period.
