I was bullied. I went to a large public University and was given a roommate. Not only bullied by him, he
had a friend who did the same. I was not outgoing, did not know it was even bullying, did not complain,
it stayed on the floor. One day, my roommate who outweighed me by 40 lbs., is drunk, and was a
wrestler in HS, and wants to wrestle me, if I say yes, he has the excuse, to break my arm and call it an accident.
The next day I tell the Resident Advisor, my roommate is wanting to do bodily harm to me, that day
he was moved down the floor and I got a new roommate. He is probably a wife beater today, I don’t know.
I went to a top 10 University where 2 of my bullies are now an MD and a top Lawyer.
Bullies come in every shape, size, dumb, smart, stupid college or top University,
Bullies make sport of it, it is their hobby and they make time for it, They study, they attend class, they get A’s, and they Bully,
It makes me sad to hear that bullying continues. I don’t know how assertive college kids can be. I would hope that if the RA is useless, the kid insists on going to the dean. Does the child have any supportive friends who can help counter the rumors?
When I got bullied at a job in 2006, I confronted the rotten apple (who had caused several others to leave). My fiancé at the time, a judge, helped me write a long letter about bullying in the workplace and the legal consequences. It is a whole different matter when one is in their 50’s than when one is less than 20.
