JustForgotMe...The same thing happened to my daughter. California allows the school to send in an appeal with the correct info. Maybe Ohio will too. We're still waiting to hear on the appeal.

anyone know ANYTHING about PA???

sp33d12: The only thing I know is that my D has heard NOTHING since she got that letter back awhile ago that she met the "qualifications". I guess the random pick hasn't been made. What a way to get a scholarship... random.

yea, same here, i heard NOTHING since that letter...

Has anyone head from NEW JERSEY??????????

What's taking them so long?????????

should all the participants have heard by now?!

One person mentioned that the Indiana selections would be announced on June 10th. Are these posted on the Internet somewhere?

I called the Indiana office yesterday. They said letters were suppose to be out by the 10th but they are still working on them. (Government works on their own timetable) Indiana office said everyone who applied should be notified by the end of June.
CC thread from last year showed people in some states did not receive notification until August. The best thing you can do is stay in touch with the state office.

i'm still waiting in NJ too :/

Well, we got the notification today. My D didn't get the Byrd Scholarship in PA. They stated the numbers. I'm pretty sure that only about 10% of those that qualified were awarded the scholarships through their lottery selection process. Hey, we never won anything on the Pennsylvania Lottery, so we're used to this.

According to the PHEAA website, if you qualified for the Byrd Scholarship, but didn't get it, you are automatically considered for the PHEAA Academic Excellence Scholarship if you meet the following:

Be a high school senior.

Be a Pennsylvania resident.

Be enrolled full-time at a PHEAA approved, Pennsylvania postsecondary institution for the academic year following high school graduation.

Be a Pennsylvania State Grant recipient for at least one term during your freshman year.

I think that they notify students of these awards by August. Unfortunately, we didn't qualify for a PHEAA State Grant this year, so Bye-Bye to that program as well.

Why does NJ have to be so slow?

bsonin: Did you get your notification in the mail? My D did not get anything yet and we are in the Pittsburgh area??

Isandin:

Yes, we received the notification via the U.S. Mail yesterday (6/13/05). The letter was dated 6/7/05. Maybe you will get something in the mail today. It's also possible that the award letters went out after the rejection letters, so perhaps you have some good news coming.

I was a little disappointed, but I had no idea of the award percentage until we received the letter. On another note, I'm wondering if you can appeal PHEAA grant ineligibility? Even if she had a small grant, it would make her eligible for the PA Academic Excellence Scholarship. Then again, I have no idea of the number of those awards.

bsonin: I doubt that any of the awards went out any earlier or later than the rest.. we have very little luck so I will just assume that the letter is on it's way. My D doesn't qualify for the PA Academic Excellenc Scholarship because she is going to school in Texas.. can't win anything, LOL! I am sure that you can appeal Pheaa Grant ineligibility but I am also sure it would be a pain to do and the chances of them granting the appeal would probably be slim but what the heck.. money is money and it is worth a little time and effort. I say go for it!

Got to the scholarship today- NJ, first class mail

Good luck to everyone else!!!!!

lsandin: where is you D going in Texas?

janacoop: She is going to Rice. No news again today on this scholarship..

my friend from school got it

3.4/1190 SAT scores <---- I guess PA really does randomly select them

I got it from NJ as well.

yeah, got my notification in NJ today as well.. You gotta love the cover letter though.. The scholarship is "contingent on federal funding" and the amount may "vary" each year. This is great, considering the Byrd scholarship funding is under Bush's proposed education cuts.
