Cal Poly SLO Transfer Thread for Fall 2020

@SoCalAlex
Going to be completely honest my stats are lower than most I think. I applied with a 3.50 gpa and then after my first semester grades came in I updated my gpa to a 3.47. I had all general ed done, all required classes, and for sure 1 of the desired requirements completed because I used assist.org and found a comparable class. I then filled the other 2 desired requirements with classes that fit course descriptions for classes I had already taken. I had 20 hours a week at an internship related to my major. Really hoping I get off the wait list I spent my summer taking a chemistry class, last semester taking a physics lab, and this semester taking an additional math and physics class. All of these classes I have taken are not required of me for Civil Engineering at my current school Fresno State and were taken solely for the purpose to try and transfer to Cal Poly. I also applied as a senior and was rejected, I don’t know if applying again after a rejection weighs in at all on admissions.

@welp2022 I also applied as EE if you don’t mind what was your GPA?

It now works it you go through the cal poly app!

How’d you send your transcripts in? My school says it takes about 7-10 business days for it to be sent to the school

I sent mine electronically, but it’ll probably still take a while for SLO to open them

How’d you do that?

@adpxoxo my college has it on their website through parchment

@Mat1hew
A 3.47 GPA is still really good, especially for engineering. The middle 50% GPA range for SLO last year was 3.21-3.85 for accepted engineering transfer applicants. Plus, you had an internship for 20 hours a week related to your major, which I think SLO likes. My GPA is only slightly higher at 3.58 but I don’t have any work related to my major. One of the other schools I applied to and recently got accepted to, San Diego State, didn’t ask anything about work on their supplemental application at all. It was all about academics. So, I think SLO really likes to see work related to your major or extracurriculars or volunteering type stuff and not just the GPA. Also, if we do both end up getting accepted into SLO and you want to get in touch to study or be roommates or something like that, let me know. I am always looking to make friends with people, especially people in my major and classes. Anyways, best of luck and I hope you get in! I’m rooting for you buddy.

If we haven’t heard anything is it safe to assume we’re being rejected?

Is anyone looking for roommates?

Also a psych major, nothing yet. I’m assuming I got rejected. Ah well.

Any Arch majors hear back? I was told acceptance notices are batched together and rejections seperately atleast for Arch

I was told we hear last because of our portfolios but April first is coming up soon

@BillDin my friend is an arch major and he hasn’t hear back yet; you guys probably have to wait longer since your portfolios are under review by the board

What is included in an Architect “portfolio?”

@NonTradtional Usually it contains a person’s projects that they have culminated throughout their years as an arch student; could be projects they created and worked on in class, it could also be projects created on their own time. Their portfolio showcases their design and presentation skills, and in other parts presents their personality, like other hobbies they’re into (I.e. photography or portraits) or what they want to do in their future careers as architects. But just to make it clear, I am not an arch student anymore; most of what I am saying is what I have learned from a couple arch classes and professors, and peers.

My portal FINALLY updated. It now says " Congratulations, you have been selected for admission to Cal Poly!" Still can’t accept but very relieved to see the update. I received my acceptance e-mail Tuesday morning and the portal didn’t update until 11:30am Friday.

accurate

Emailed the financial aid office about financial aid packages. They responded and said that we should receive a financial aid award by “next Tuesday” if we filed the FAFSA for 2020-21. Not sure if they meant this upcoming Tuesday or Tuesday the 31st, but yeah.

has anyone else heard back? or should we assume rejection. I know a bunch of high GPA applicants haven’t received an admission decision so please lmk!
