Cal Poly SLO Transfer Thread for Fall 2020

Business Admin is the exact opposite, I’m a 4.0 2nd Year with a related full-time job and I’ve seen alot of 3.5-3.7 3rd and 4th year CC students with no job, volunteering or internships get in last week.

I got out in 2 years as a Bus Admin major. My gpa is a 3.92 with over 21+ hours working major related and lots of EC hours. I got in last week. It’s all over the board

Can those who are In-State & admitted say your Financial Aid award?

I’m trying to gauge if they even offered me enough since Cal Poly’s tuition is $10,041.

Is it worth it to bring guests to orientation?

@NonTradtional I was offered $13,122 in grants only. Need to pay $15,804 for the school year with those grants applied  not quite enough. Might have to go to a UC to save money lmao

New situation.

Cant move forward sending official transcripts to admissions
my college district does not utilize the electronic transcript services Cal Poly accepts. So I tried “Sending paper copy” option but then was notified this is only possible when the district facilities are open… which they’re not due to COVID-19 :-/

First try calling your school. If they do not answer try email and explain your situation. Give the email about 48 hours and if that doesn’t work email Cal Poly.

It’s the housing & meal plan that skyrockets the cost.

If you subtract the $15,705 (Housing & Meals) and $711 (Transportation) from the total, then your cost is $12,510 & you were given $13,122 in Grants.

Now you just have rent & groceries. I think it’s cheaper to get off-campus & buy your own groceries.

does anyone on here know if transfers are considered for the Cal Poly Scholars program, and if so are they notified as soon as they’re admitted?

Yes - Transfers are automatically considered for the Cal Poly Scholar when you apply. You don’t have to do anything. It will be awarded upon acceptance, if eligible.

I was just accepted & I’m a Transfer & I have been awarded the Cal Poly Scholar. No notification was given to me but I saw it in my “View Financial Aid” link after I clicked “2021” & saw a breakdown of my Grants. Mine says “CPS Cal Poly Scholar NTR” and the award amount is to the right for the year.

Mine is $3,894. I don’t know if it’s the same amount for everyone or if it’s based on need. Your orientation fees for SLO Days and WOW Week are waived & there are some other perks. After you find yours in “View Financial Aid” then look up Cal Poly Scholar on Cal Poly’s website to learn more about it.

Wait… this is crazy. About half an hour after posting this, I got an email from Cal Poly inviting me to join the Scholars program!

same - scholars program!

but since they only gave me 45% of financial aid needed, I might have to decline ;-; we will see i guess.

ANYONE HAVE OTHER SCHOOLS COME OUT???

@NonTradtional - i got the same amount as you but i still need more financial aid so welp

How are you coming up with 45% amount?

If you’re talking about the $28,926 amount… refer to my earlier #453 post above.

@NonTradtional but the housing is for the entire year while rent is probably going to be the same amount for the entire year as well right?

Also, how do you become eligible for the scholars program? I didn’t get anything and I feel like I should be eligible given my stats and financial status.

When you apply to Cal Poly, they automatically review everyone’s application for the Cal Poly Scholar. I don’t know what criteria they use for one to become eligible but it shows up in your financial aid link. Then at 10 PM tonight, they just sent an email telling me I am one.

Email the financial aid office now & ask them to review your application for the Cal Poly Scholar since you think there may have been an error. Include your Cal Poly student ID # in the email which can be found on your Portal at the top tab “Personal Info” and it’s called Poly EmplID:

@NonTradtional - even taking off some of the room and board and food, still around 45% of what I need. I would suggest estimating high because you never know what you will need to pay eventually. ;-;

@bean01262020 - i dont think the scholars program is just GPA and financial status??? it could be some merit thing? dont quote me on that cuz im not too sure.

From Cal Poly’s website: “The Cal Poly Scholars program seeks to support and retain high-achieving students from California schools, who come from low-income backgrounds, by providing financial, academic, and community resources.” @NonTradtional @bean01262020 @heyigotnoclue

I mean… you can always start a Grow Room in your apartment & make deliveries to offset the remainder. Hahaaaa

@NonTradtional ok, I did that. Thanks.
