Calling counselors?

My counselor received a call from home from Harvard and Princeton for my cousin at my school. They wanted to admit her but her scores were not "up to par" I guess...but were like the second highest at my school (1970). I think it means your boderline. They want to admit you... but they don't know if they can. They asked if she would go to some summer school program to make sure she would be ok.

oh great...borderline...

now I'm gonna feel really bad when I get rejected... cause Harvard got my hopes up by calling my counselor...

I don't think a call is an automatic rejection because a university would not take its precisions admission decision making time by calling students, which they do not have an interest in possibly offering admission.

ya i was thinking right along the lines of what lingotjuice is saying....that they would like to admit me but may be worried about academics....think they would worry about 2080 SATI's and 2130 SATII?....either way im guessing getting a call would generally mean borderline...which is again really frustrating for those who do have this happen to us because if we do get rejected/waitlisted you know you were really really close.....imagine being the last kid out of getting an acceptance....thats how i would feel....kinda wish i didnt even hear about it now haha

hey lingotjuice...did your cousin get admitted to either of the schools? or do you not know yet?

I don't know yet... she is in my class 2008.. I hope all of you guys get in...I'm rooting for yall... and for myself...but I think my shot is iffy cause my cousin and I have the same last name and counselor and one recommender... and they never mentioned me =(...

good luck to you lingotjuice...who know whatll happen in this weird admissions crapshoot.

ive been trying to not spend time on schoolwork that seems to bring my mind back to college and admissions...best way to get your mind off admissions is to spend time with friends and do scomething active...and dont talk about college while youre doing it...im going to spend time with friends after school everyday this coming week if i can or else ill be couped up at home suffocating myself to death

Waiting for the decision is going to be hard.

i know im losing all concentration in school i find myself staring at my calendar and my clock counting down the days....i know duke tomorow and thats very exciting/daunting...hopefully we all get in I look forward to seeing you at harvard

Thanks. I'm still waiting for my decision, too.

Hopefully, the call from Stanford was a good sign.

I did not apply Duke, but good luck to you. Hopefully, you get in to Duke.

I'm waiting for UC Berkeley's decisions, which come out on Thursday.

Also, waiting for the Ivy League decision date is hard. Like you, I sometimes want time to go faster, so I can find out my admission decisions already.

what's your top school? Stanford?
I applied there as well and i've been there once and absolutely loved it.
its freakin amazing; such a beautiful place.I think it's my top choice as of now.

Actually, my top choice is Princeton. Going to the symposium convinced me that it fit my personality.

Stanford is a contendor in my college selection process. If I do get accepted to Stanford, I'll definitely try to go to one of their admit days.

I wouldn't ignore Stanford if Princeton accepts me.

Of course, behind the first tier, which is composed of Princeton, Stanford, Harvard, etc, there is a 2nd tier of schools.

The 2nd tier of schools for me would be NYU, UC Berkeley, UCLA, and USC. I've already been accepted to all these schools, except Berkeley. I'm still waiting for their decision.

Just getting back to the topic of this thread for a moment, I also found out today that my counselor had gotten a call regarding me. She just randomly mentioned it and then went on talking about something else, so I didn't get to pry her for information about the call. I've been really curious ever since.

The "borderline" idea would make sense for me, although not in an academic sense, cause my numbers are, well, uh, about as high as possible. Its possible they called to talk about the meaning of my GPA, though, since my school is definitely not a HYP feeder. More likely, I'm thinking it was more personality-based and such, because my ECs are rather standard and uninspiring.

Overall, though, it just made me really, really curious.

affle, do you know when your counselor got the call? Ya It must not be an academic borderline but rather an acceptance borderline...i really don't think harvard would waste calling unless they were interested in a student....my counselor mentioned that this happened to her only once i think in her 20 years and that was a call from Princeton and Yale for the same student and i believe that student was ultimately accepted to both (at least princeton because thats where he ended up going)....but just like you i've been really curious about it...im cautiously optimistic i guess

No idea when the call came, that might have been a clue. I just happened to stop in to guidance today (for a while they'd been calling me out of class like twice a week and then they hadn't called me down for over a month, so I figured I might as well check in), and while I was there my guidance counselor randomly mentioned it.

sounds like youre counselor didnt seem as suprised or as excited as mine was. mine was pretty surprised and called me out of class a few days later to personally tell me so i guess there are many interpretations to it

hey nhsharvard what was stanford's decision?

I got a call too... and I was rejected from stanford..

but your counselor got a call from harvard right?

I also got rejected at stanford and yeah it sucks...but hopefully
harvard will be better for us

marcus2008, I forgot to tell you Stanford's decision.

I was waitlisted by Stanford.
I'm waiting for Harvard, Princeton, etc. Hopefully, they accept me.

Good luck to marcus2008 and everybody!!!!!!!!!

sooo.... so far, everyone who got a call... got rej/wl at stanford. yikes!
