chances 4 17 yr. old black man

its low enough and high enough for an athlete or minority to get into an ivy league school. looks about right. . but maybe a 500 would work too.

As a through and through WASP, I feel confident that the people who oppose AA for the reasons stated above are going to end up at a state school.

They'll spend the rest of their lives whining that they were rejected from HYP because some URM took their place (It couldn't have anything to do with their mediocrity) and burn crosses to make themselves feel better.

oh... Yeh I know a few kids (URM-hispanics) who were accepted into Dartmouth. One had a 1200, and the other had a 1080?

No clue.. nice people though

On the topic of nature vs. nurture: I get the impression that some people out there have no idea what a really good prep school is like. Doing a little background research for Princeton graduate school, I noticed that every graduate of the program to which I am applying graduated high school at a top ten private high school--many of them board away. My undergraduate Columbia class didn't look much different. With the exception of my roomate, everyone I knew (black, white, and latino) had spent at least $18,000 a year on highschool--most had started in these schools from kindergarten. We had constant access to private tutors, study abroad, elementary school orchestra practice with the philharmonic, counselors who were buddy-buddy with admissions officers, and some even had parents who could afford to buy their kids into school. I find it extremely difficult to believe that anyone thinks that a kid (of any race) from an inner city, a small town, or a backwash suburb can be expected to compete on precisely the same level as a student who learned her highschool French at her grandmother's house in France. Anyways, it's not an A.A. admit stealing your 'kid's spot' at Harvard. It is a prep school brat. And if that seems fair to you, fine. Let the rich get richer. It won't help white kids from the suburbs.

OP should apply to NYU. He'd be in w/ a full ride.

^ How so? adds random typing so message isn't too short

Isn't America great? Minority, low test scores, some extracurriculars and AP's...you're in!

^ There should really be a screening process to use this board. Anyone who says something that ridiculous shouldn't be allowed in.

I was being sarcastic. I was replying to some of the comments on the first page, which basically said that becuse he is a minority and has low scores he could get into all of the schools on his list and possibly/probably an Ivy.

Btw, i've never been called ridiculous before (there's a first time for everything, i guess)

Of course sarcasm comes off very well via the internet. See mine?

touche message is too short so i am adding nonsense

Are you an NY resident? Because if so, I don't know about SUNY Binghamton....I mean, I'm not saying I doubt your chances, but I didn't even know anyone outside of NY knew Bing exists :p I think the majority is easily NY students...but I could be wrong?

You two, stop being mutually sarcastic and not knowing it :p

Are you an NY resident? Because if so, I don't know about SUNY Binghamton....I mean, I'm not saying I doubt your chances, but I didn't even know anyone outside of NY knew Bing exists I think the majority is easily NY students...but I could be wrong?

yea im from ny

and i dont go 2 a bad school i go 2 an all white school so its sort of sux and its sad bc almost evryblack person in my school is like ranked 400 and higher

You are defintely in at Ohio State-Columbus. I live in Columbus, and Ohio State is not that hard to get into. If you apply through the Morrils Scholars Program(office of minority affairs/mulitcultural), and apply for an academic scholarship you will be good. There are three different scholarships one with free tutition, free tuition and board, and then one with free tuition, room n board, and money.(if you qualify for the third one you have to go for an interview. I think you have 95% chance for all three of those scholarships.I know alot people who have gotten atleast one of those scholarships, plus you know you're a minority.good luck!!!

accepted to uiuc and ohio state so far....

you are in no matter what you do. so just relax sit back and count the acceptances and scholarships.

i don't know about the rest of you guys, but...

i guy with a 1250(i think it was) and a 3.3 has almost ZERO chance in an ivy league, yet about the first 10 were telling him to apply.

i have a 1370, and a 3.7 i and doubt i could get in any, MAYBE cornell or brown. I dont see how his mean anything. And no one says that his AP classes are any tough at all (if they allow all AP classes, they PROBABLY aren't very tough, esp. looking at his test scores which back that up)
