Chances of admittance to TAMU college station

freshman: 3.1 (2 preAp) 86 raw

sophmore: 3.9 (3 Ap/preAp) 93 raw

junior: 3.8 (5 Ap/preap) 91 raw

senior: In the summer of my junior year. I plan on taking 7 classes each semester as well as a rigorous workload. (4 Ap/preAp)

class rank is extremely mediocre due to freshman year (280ish of 690). SAT/ACT scores are unknown as of now since i just recently took them. (i received a 1700 on PSAT) 1170 math and verbal combined

clubs: key club, NHS, NSHSS

volunteer work: i foresee an amount of 50+ hours, especially via church community work.

community organizations include a youth group and cultural/community church that i've been a part of since early youth. I'm also an ethnic minority (african american), muslim, and a first generation college student.

College visits to the 2 colleges are upcoming (was invited to the A&M honors program tour), and i have reasons to my lacking grades. Any decent chance?

I plan to major in biology (genetics in particular) or neurosciences.

I'm also taking a college prep class. I plan on graduating, with this particular class in my schedule for a length of 4 years.

interests include; egyptology, linguistuics, population history, and more "teenage" hobbies such as games and basketball.

Eventual class term ranges include:

foreign language: 3 years

math: 4 or 4.5 years

science: 4 years

english: 4 years

social studies: 4.5 years

electives: 4 years (college prep class)

The middle 50% of the freshmen had an average SAT score between 1580 and 1900 (out of 2400) and an ACT score between 23 and 28.

u look pretty good.... the school is pretty similar to UGA...and u don't have to be that smart to get in.

What about the other criteria? (senior year should witness similar to better grades compared to sophmore/junior years)

It's going to be obvious that you have picked things up since your freshman year. Also, A&M, like most universities, is aggressively recruiting minorities. I think A&M will want you and you'll be a good candidate for a scholarship, too.

Trust me, you're in.

What are the requirements for the agriculture and life science college? Is the admission process criteria to get in the same throughout all colleges in terms of gpa/sat?

I know the business school requires a higher GPA, etc. I would think the engineering school would as well. The Agriculture and Life Sciences college would not require a higher GPA.

I just got my SAT scores and they are horrible...

51 crit reading

53 math

56 writing

math + verbal = 1040 (1600 total)

Will this hurt me tons? I can't beleive i recieved such a score..hopefully my ACT is better.

Since i sent my scores to A&M is there any way to keep this horrible score hidden?

Do college apps ask for PSAT scores?

Also how much does the writing portion of the ACT affect your composite multiple choice? What's he maximum number of points that you can lower your multiple choice composite if you were to totally bomb your essay?

^ sorry if it's off topic

A&M's avg SAT score out of 1600 is 1190, and most students there are in the top qtr of their class. Your stats are below average, but you have a pretty decent load in terms of difficulty and some solid ECs. Your hook is your minority status. A&M is aggressively recruiting black students especially since we currently have a 1.53% black population, lol.

I just recently found out my ACT scores. (26) After hearing that this is a decent score by friends, should i instead send my ACT scores? (i was definitely a lot less nervous on this test) XD

Anyone? How common is a 26, in the university?

a 26 is good enough for A&M i think....

26 = 1170-1200 = 1760

yep that's a good score... + minority status + good ec's + good gpa

looks good to me

How much emphasis is put on the ACT essay?

A&M puts little or no emphasis on the ACT essay, just like the SAT Writing Section.

Try and raise your scores though. SAT/ACT score and class rank is what really weighs A&M's admission decisions.

How promising is a 26 composite? (i don't plan on sending SAT scores since it doesn't represent my true ability remotely as well)

Gig 'em... I wouldn't say that you're a sure shot in--happens to the best of them.

Can you elaborate?

Are you from Texas? For Texans, you gain automatic admission if you're in the top 10% of your class or if you're in the top 25% and score at least a 1300 SAT or 30 ACT. Otherwise, your application will be reviewed. I'm not sure how it works for OOS.

Yeah, you could get in no problem.
A&M has a 75% admittance rate.
