Class of 06

yea there is a decent out of state pop. but a lot are from like suburban ohio which is basically the same as central indiana, not that im saying there arent a lot of kids from other places, this is just to warn u that the diversity may not be what u expect it to be. As far as approaching ppl you will have no problem but the prob. may lie with finding close friends since a lot of kids will already have there little group.

o ic wel im from california and im prety outgoing person so i dont think it will be a problem ya i kno not much "minority diversity" but i hope theres alot of mental/social diversity

yea if your outgoing you will have no prob... at iu there are either the low quality in-state kids who got in with 2.8's and are there just to party or the top students. You would be surprised at the academic diversity, i guess thats what you would call it. Basically though most of the kids are a lot more open-minded than you would think considering indiana isnt known to be liberal.

o cool tats gud, wel i tink im more academic than party or im sorta in between, i got accpeted to their honors college but i dont want to be around super nerdy kids just kids who liketo havefun hang out and study when they got to. like "responsible" party collegekids ahah

if your want a very friendly school i can suggest my number one choice(it has to be a sin to suggest another school in the school forums) ... Ohio University-athens. It has a nationally recognized honors program and the students are well known for being very friendly. The school is seriously amazing and the perfect size (16,000 undergrad).

eh cool, ohio university heard of it is it rolling? well my first choice is IU- bloomington im prety positive its the school for me :)

hey. collins LLC is a beautiful dorm. i knew a kid that lived there. the majority of people that live in there are the hippy type. i dont know if that's your thing or not, but thats what you'll find. the people there are friendly, though. they're one of the only places on campus that has a buffet-style cafe you can use your mealpoints at and they also have a small coffee shop (pay with money, not mealpoints) they also seemed to have a lot of activities going on.

o most of them are the hippy type? hm im not relly a quirky, artsy person though, im a prospective busines major with minor in sociology/psychology, are like all of them the hippy type or is it just like 50-60% of them, what do the kids at collins usually major in? imade it my first choice cuz it seemed to hav a collegial type of environment where it wasn't just all partying sort of like balanced between academics/partying/learning new thing type :(

yeah, mostly all artsy folks live there. the cafeteria has a lot of vegetarian options. not being stereotypical, though. im vegetarian and im not the hippy type.

aww son of a B**ch!, you're making me regret my decision in choosing COLLLINS!!!! i mean i dont hate artsy people but damn i'd like to be around people with less quirky personalities and interests once in a awhile!!!!!! i tink if i stay at collins all that artsy stuff will overhelm me and make it difficult to find friends that are like me, arent their ANY kids in collins that arent artsyhippy type?? i mean people who major in something more common like psych., spea, business, sociology etc.? gt3000 what dorm do you recommend then if collins isnt right for me that is sorta close to the business or honors college? i dont want the dorm to be too party, i want a balanced dorm and i probaly wont join a fraternity or anything. thanks

Is admissions harder out of state?

hey, dont let one person on a message board sway your choice, but i understand your mindset.

the NW neighborhood is typically the "party" dorms. i lived in briscoe there and id recommend it because there were a good balance of people living there. its also very close to the business school and is one of the cheaper dorms on campus bc it doesnt have air conditioning. however, it doesnt have a cafeteria and you have to walk down the street to get to the one in Foster (also a nice dorm)

central neighborhood is also mixed. i had a lot of friends that lived in Teter and they loved it. i cant say the same about wright, though. teter is also close to the business school.

SE neighborhood is mostly music students because its right by the music school.

I thought Wright wasn't bad at all, after touring the school twice. There's a website which talks about the dorms from a students perspective. I'll look for that website, and post it once I find it.

eh out of state admission is still ok even though publics make it "harder" for oos students to get accepted in iub's case since it is fairly easy scool to get into, oos status wont really hurt kinglin. GT3000 THANKS FOR MAKING ME FEEL BAD!!!!! i was prety much set on going to collins and i knewthat some were artsy and stuff like 50% of em but i didnt kno all of em were like taht damN!!! ha its cool im jk. ill probaly change to briscoe since thats relatively cheap and like u said it has balanced students. also do u kno anythign about the academic floors? like are they all for just nerds who are antisocial or wut? thanks for input gt3000! :)

btw i am oos, from california and i got in so u shud be fine too kinglin, hope u sent ur app early though cuz tat matters

hey again- the only academic floor i knew people that lived in was in McNutt. it was the same as the rest of the dorm!

i really liked briscoe, though. it was a good mix of partiers and studious types. everyone on my floor was extremely nice and not stuck up. i could tell that it was pretty similar on every other floor whenever i went to hang out with friends or even from striking up conversations with people in the elevators.

some people say briscoe is really loud. i didnt think that was really true. it was as loud as youd expect a freshman dorm to be.

the atmosphere was great, especially because memorial stadium, assembly hall, and baseball/softball fields are like a second away. i could also see the soccer stadium from my room, which was especially cool during little 500 season. its also an easy walking distance to the gym, and close to the greek houses for when you have to end up sneaking around bc of the dry campus! (a major deciding factor, i know haha)

if youre bringing a car to campus, its also right next to the E14 parking lot, and a parking pass is extremely cheap compared to other places on campus.

i hope wherever you end up youre happy!

so academic floors are just prety much normal floors? cool cuz i was thinking about signing up for an academic floor, ya im thinking about briscoe or teter cuz both are close to business school i dont kno yet gota talk to collins person and get some more info. ya thanks for the information it sorta helps
