@CValle You are right. She has friends that were rejected at Northeastern when they felt it was a solid option - High stats kids. It seems like there is little rhyme or reason to it all and kids are being encouraged to over-apply to be sure someone says yes. I wish they didn’t even release yield numbers so that this wouldn’t be such an issue.
@gingared 35 ACT, 96/100 unweighted. Nothing special compared to a lot of rejected/waitlisted students in this thread–definitely a luck-of-the-draw thing
Just registered for Olin School paid trip to Wash U. that’s pretty neat that they pick up tab for us!
I’m so scared I won’t get in anywhere. I was rejected with a 1530 SAT and 43 in my IB finals. I’m an international student so there’s a lower admit rate for us and I’m afraid I won’t make the cut anywhere
@CValle u r correct. You have to hedge ur chances for acceptances. Sad that it has come to this
D got accepted into Olin. 36 ACT, 3.96 uw, 4.45w, National Merit Finalist, lots of service, some awards, studied abroad last summer in France. FYI - we did get the USPS informed delivery notification at around noon.
Congratulations to all that got in. To those who didn’t, I feel really sad. My older daughter, who attends WashU, got rejected from 3 of 7 colleges. I’m sure you’re all amazing candidates who will have many good options. Good luck to all.
Rejected from Engineering…
35 ACT, 4.0 UW, 4.35 W, didn’t report SAT but 1540. 8 AP’s, 5’s in APUSH, Psych, Lang, Gov, taking remaining 4 exams this year. EC’s okay, essays must have not been great if I got rejected like I did.
National Merit Finalist.
WashU wasn’t my top choice but getting rejected from there has really disheartened me about my chances at the other, more competitive schools, like Rice and Vandy. Ah well.
Rejected - had 0% interest in attending WashU
only submitted b/c I had no application fee and my mom begged me to
Ethnicity: African-American
From: DC
Don’t let it dishearten you @shaveandahaircut, I didn’t apply to engineering, but I got rejected from WUSTL arts and sciences tonight even though I found out a couple weeks ago that I got into Vanderbilt (they let me know early bc I was invited to their MOSAIC event). Different schools want different things and bc of holistic review and the sheer amount of qualified applicants, anywhere competitive has really become a crapshoot. Don’t get too down on yourself, with your qualifications, I am sure you’ll get into many other great places.
Slightly bummed but grateful Waitlisted at Olin with a 1500 SAT I, 42/45 IB predict, and ECs like running my own consultancy firm, publishing an economics research paper in an international journal, vice-president of the student council, director general of MUN, etc.
For all you 2023 applicants checking this forum to get stats, there you go ^
Best of luck and congrats to everyone that got in.
And a kid from my son’s school was rejected by WashU last year and was accepted by/currently attending Rice. There’s no rhyme or reason for how or why someone gets into one school and not the other. Go with the best opportunity available and try not to stress over what you could have done differently. And maybe the school you end up attending is the most amazing place and affords you even more opportunities.
Darn, I’m starting to sound like a fortune cookie…
@Abrollll How do you run a consulting firm as a high schooler? Why would people hire a high schooler over someone that is more qualified?
haha I wasn’t too upset at first about not getting in, cuz that’s life, but now I’m sad i didn’t just cuz i can’t get that dope package of gear or whatever in the mail.
super happy for everyone else though that heard good news tonight!!!
I got in!!! SO happy—WashU’s been my top for a while but I never thought I had a chance. I started crying when I read the letter and almost didn’t believe it at first!!! Female, architecture, 32 ACT / 3.75 UW gpa (my low stats show that test scores/grades aren’t everything!!). I’m so happy I got in, but don’t know if I’ll be able to attend yet because I got no financial aid or scholarships, but I really hope I’m able to. Congrats to everyone else who got in!!! Sorry to those who didn’t, but you’ll end up wherever is right for you:)
Rejected. 1570 SAT, 3.9 UW, lots of AP classes + tests (all 5’s except one), decent EC’s…I know I sound so whiny and entitled but god, I’m really depressed. This has been one of many L’s already. I didn’t really show demonstrated interest so I get it, but I didn’t even get waitlisted, which worries me for the rest of my decisions. All my friends have already gotten into MIT, Cornell, Caltech, etc, and here I am with a failed early round and my second rejection this week. I don’t know if my essays were terrible or if one of my teacher recs were secretly disparaging.
Admissions process sure is confusing. A lot of amazing people rejected, a lot of people you might underestimate.
@rosaliefontaine I heard reject by WashU but with great stats like you is a good sign since you may get in big ivy schools! So don’t worry!
S got accepted. 1580 SAT, 3.97 UW, National Merit Finalist, competitive STEM summer camp, some national/state awards, varsity fencing, band, volunteer etc . FYI - we got the USPS informed delivery notification at 9PM this evening.
Good luck to all.
Rejected Olin Business
Deferred ED as well
Flew out to the school TWICE from California, Interview, Did not ask for financial aid, Correspondence, Update Letter, did ALL I could.
Accepted so far: University of Michigan Ross Business School, Northeastern Business, UT Austin Business, Indiana Kelley, UC Davis
SAT: 1490, GPA 4.0 (Weighted) - My basic, most important stats were just not high enough
I started one of the first high school business incubators in America, convincing my school to give me 10,000 to give to two student companies, rigorous internships working at high-tech silicon valley companies in electric cars and smart windows, I got flown out to Tokyo for a Japanese venture capitalist competition for an education app I built and was the ONLY American and ONLY teenager, I am DECA CEO and President and won tens of DECA business awards including Internationals, I run a business radio show at my school where I analyze financial trends, revamped the Silicon Valley Red Cross social media presence boosting engagement 25%, avid journalist with awards, varsity tennis player, accomplished scuba diver who has dove around the world and has done marine biology projects, I also have a stock market portfolio that has grown immensely since the Trump economy boom with holdings that include companies like Square, Shopify, Netflix.
Based on my experience and skills I thought I would be a perfect candidate for Olin, though I was unimpressed with their US news ranking and starting salary, I LOVED washU and thought it was perfect, c’mon lets be real guys the school is PERFECT, anyone who visits immediately falls in love. Being from silicon valley and living on the California coast I have never been fond of anywhere else and especially not the American Midwest, but I really thought I would make an impact and love it. Just shows how statistics matter so much, regardless of what you’ve done or accomplished!
More Info:
State/Area: California Bay Area
Race: White
Income: 1,000,000+ (Did not try and seek FA)
School: Rigorous Private, One of the best in the country
Congrats to everyone who got in, you will have a great time. For those of us rejected we will get into good schools as well. I really enjoyed engaging with WashU in the admissions process, it is a wonderful school, but now I must move on. Good luck to those waitlisted.
DD accepted to Arts & Sciences. Super excited! 3.93 UW, 33 ACT, 5s on all APs, good ECs and essay, but I think demonstrated interest made a difference. She spent a lot of time on her scholarship essay even though she didn’t get it and she signed up for an interview in our home state and when that filled up she went to WashU to tour and do an interview there. FYI - we got the USPS informed delivery notification earlier today and it must go by address not recipient because the account is in my name, not D. D was rejected last night from Colorado College, but we weren’t able to go there for a tour. You never know how the admissions process will go. Good luck to all.
