Colleges with best/worst names

Mmmm...I think I'll put some Rice in my Dartmouth :D

I think Rice should get together with the two Wheatons, and the two Cornells, and form a new Granular League.

haha that would be sooo funny

"Most recently Kalamazoo is known for the "Kalamazoo Promise" which guarantees every high school graduate in the city a free or partially free college education."
How can something be partially free??

Worst ever:
University of Houston - Cinco Ranch

State Fair Community College

You go to these schools to learn how to lasso and brand cattle or to raise them to win a blue ribbon.

I hate schools like Cornell College in IA or Georgetown College in KY becuase when you say them people think u r talking about Cornell U & Georgetown U.

Or Columbia College, only about 20 of them.

Beaver college was the best.

Right down the street from my school.

Too bad they changed their name to Arcadia :(

Harvey Mudd.
Muddy Harvey...I don't think so.
Muddy Waters? Sure...But, I will refrain from Muddy Harveys.

Why doesn't Harvey Mudd College rename itself to California Institute of Mathematics or something? Then the school would get the reputation it actually deserves...

Probably because the marginal cost outweighs the marginal benefit...

I've always said the UC's should do some marketing and rename themselves better things. Like UC Merced--who's ever heard of Merced? And when you actually look at it, it's in a terrible location in the central valley air pocket. Ick! Why didn't they build UC Venice Beach or UC Santa Monica or UC Mammoth Mountain?

I'm half-kidding about that, but only half. :)

In my princeton review book, there's some quote from some guy at UC Irvine who's like "If they would just change the name of UC Irvine to UC Newport Beach, a lot more hot girls would apply"

I agree with the UC idea haha^

The popular UCs are the ones with the better names/locations..

UC Venice Beach though?? Venice is dirty!!

UC Mammoth Mountain: LOL...can you imagine students moving in on the first day? Those who don't get used to the altitude will be fainting from all their exertions.

Sesquenehanna or something... lol yeah.. obviously not the easiest to say.
Princeton's actually a really good name, in my opinion
and I like Duke, but it is odd to some... lol anyone see that Boy Meets World episode when Eric Matthews makes fun of the kid who gets into Duke because he thinks a school with such a ridiculous name doesn't exist?

any school where some rich guy buys it so he can put his name on it......like Duke

Would Stanford be up there as well?

'Cause I'd gladly go to Stanford.

I agree... the religion-affiliated names sound strange (not because of any language relations, but you know..)

UC Beverly Hills would be a good one, too. :)

Lots of schools are named after rich benefactors...Vanderbilt, Brown, Duke, Stanford (a bunch of my friends were making fun of Stanford because it's actually called Leland Stanford Junior University--we laughed at the "Junior University"), and countless others.

Has anybody mentioned Oral Roberts yet? Or Ball State? Or Morehead State?
