Columbia ED 2023 Discussions

I wish I knew it would be on one specific day so I didn’t have to be so on edge for the next two weeks! Good luck to all you guys.

I’ll be on a plane when it gets released… Good luck to all!

When will it release?

When I first got my portal link nothing had been posted yet because I submitted my app pretty early (maybe in early october)… my portal just was blank because it was so early, and it said something along the lines of check back from Nov. something (I don’t remember the date) to Dec. 6 to see updates.
My friends for UPenn heard that it’s Dec. 13th at 7 PM, and I think Columbia releases at the same time

@columbialions21, that looks to be correct. See this link. https://www.thedp.com/article/2018/12/early-admission-decision-2018-upenn

Dude your experience is amazing (I’m in awe lol)… I can’t gaurantee you cuz I’m not an admission officer but STOP WORRYING EVERYONE we’ve done everything we could already :DDD

How sure is everyone that decisions will be released December 13th at 7:00 EST? I was under the impression it would be the 15th but I guess it was on the 14th last year.

@iasjpfosapjs Only top 70? I’m ranked Top 5 internationally in the 1600m, 3200m, 5k, and 10k, and I won three gold medals at the Rio Olympics. My weak point is probably my GPA too, though. I have a 4.1 UW on a 4.0 scale, and my 36 ACT was really a 35.75 because I got a 35 on the reading portion. I don’t know if I’ll ever get into college.

@futurefriend 99% sure that it’ll be released December 13th, 19:00 EST. Obviously we’ll need to wait for admissions to gift us with a touch of clarity, but that means we have less than 9 days to go! Good luck!

When does Columbia usually let us know when the results will be released?

Does anyone know what percent of EDs is legacy? Or is there some website or something that talks about it? Last year it was supposedly 1 in 4 students admitted at UPenn ED was legacy…
I don’t have legacy at CC, but my mom went to med school there and still works as a professor/doctor at the med school but not undergrad

I don’t think there’s any official information on that stuff but I could be wrong

@columbialions21 , very few students in any given class at Columbia are legacies. See the attached link below. Over the last few classes (2020-2022), 62, 65 and 70,students, respectively, are legacies. I believe that translates to something like 5% are legacies, as compared with 25% at UPenn and 1/3 at Harvard and Princeton. Also, Columbia like most colleges gives the legacy weight to sons and daughters of Columbia College and Columbia Engineering (undergraduate).

From the Columbia Admissions Website:

"Does Columbia give preference in the admission process to applicants whose parents attended Columbia?

We are always pleased to receive applications from students whose family members have graduated from Columbia. When an applicant is extremely competitive and compares favorably with other similarly talented candidates, being the daughter or son of a Columbia University graduate (from any Columbia school or college) may be a slight advantage in the admission process. This advantage may especially apply for “legacy” candidates.

Please note: applicants are considered to be “legacies” of Columbia only if they are the children of Columbia College or Columbia Engineering graduates."

Are we going to get the update at 7:00 EST today?

The portal is no longer up, so I am hoping there’s an update on when decisions are released.

The portal at https://apply.college.columbia.edu/apply/status? It’s up for me but idk if it should be if it’s down for you. Or maybe it’s a different link.

Okay not “down” but they took down the checklist meaning they’re preparing stuff

Officially the 13th at 7pm EST!

Finally got the confirmation, let the official countdown begin

Thank you! How did you confirm?
