<p>Impacted just means that there are more people applying to the major than they can admit. History at UCLA for example is impacted but not horrendously competitive. Communications on the other hand is impacted and deathly competitive.</p>
<p>I never understood it like that. I mean, if say, basketweaving is not impacted, would they admit (nearly) all basketweaving applicants?</p>
<p>It kind of confuses me to. But I assume that even if they have open spaces for that major they will still not accept you if they don't feel that you are qualified.</p>
