@totwocollege , no way they can scan through thousands of waitlist files once a spot opens up. Someone in another waitlist thread said that they actually have two waitlists. One is the waitlist with a real chance of admission. This list is much smaller, maybe only a couple hundred files. One is for legacies and other polite rejections. Sad thing is, they will never tell you which list you are on.
Agree with what @bogeyorpar said! Here is a really interesting talk about waitlists- Iāve found it really informative. http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/2070370-are-waiting-lists-out-of-control-p3.html
Should I send an additional letter of rec in addition to a LOCI?
For additional rec, where shall we send? Still through common app?
@peonyplant I called admissions, and they told me for additional information I could submit a letter of interest, additional letters of recommendation, and any updates on awards/activites! So I guess that sending an additional letter wouldnāt hurt, and at the very least it shows your strong interest in Cornell- which they like
What about grades?
@techilliterate Shall we send all additional materials through email to the admissioner, including the rec letter?
Guys, itās not that difficult. There is a link on the waitlist form that tells you the specific email you should send updates toā¦
@lenasharb You can update them on your grades as well! My counselor told me to send a screenshot of my grades to them because we only get our unofficial transcripts updated twice a year. I plan on sending an email that contains a) stating reiterated interest in cornell b) update on grades/activites c) restate my interest in cornell and how I will be a good fit. I will have my teacher send in his extra recommendation letter separately.
What other schools did you all get accepted to?
@M_51222 I donāt see any link, at least not in my letter. Does anyone else see a link or email where they tell you to submit additional information?
No @lenasharb
My D committed to the University of Pittsburgh. Neuroscience major, was accepted into the Physician Assistant program via their Freshman Guarantee.
guys for COE, did anyone get a confirmation email after submitting the waitlist form?
Most schools donāt rank the waitlist; they have a preferred composition of the class, and then take from the waitlist to fill āholesā that open up. For example, this year they are touting having a 50-50 male/female ratio in engineering students accepted. So I would imagine that if an unanticipated number of female engineering candidates enroll elsewhere, they will fill the āfemale engineerā holes, while there may be fewer spots for āfemale English Majorsā or āmale computer science majorsā.
would you say an Asian male in CS applying to A&S has no hope off the wait list?
Last year 5714 students were offered a spot on the waitlist with 3723 accepting the offer. 75 were offered fall admission. These numbers are the issue.
has anyone received a confirmation email?
When my son did the reply form, no confirmation email. But when he emailed his letter of continued interest, he did get an automatic reply @FiringSquad
@DHC , where did your son send the LOCI to?
@bogeyorpar My son said on one one of the Cornellās all about the waitlist notes they listed a specific address to send your update.
