@inspireme I think it might be the fact that you and your friend might have applied to different clusters and your friend could have chosen an easy one to get into and if not then im sorry.

All my other friends applied for that cluster as well

@inspireme Truth be told, I really think that the decision lies in your essays. If you truly show the admissions officers that you deserve to be in COSMOS and why by showing off your own unique self, I think that’s what seals the deal.

ACCEPTED TO CHEMISTRY OF LIFE, UCD! Planning to crash the place with missiris lol

I think we should repost stats on a separate board though, since this is a waiting board. Some parent created a results board; we should migrate to there! :D

the thing is though all my other friends and me are better than him in English. He doesn’t get good grades and one of those classes is English. I’m just in disbelief. We all wrote better essays than my friend.

what I didn’t get an email @_@

Check your application site.

Sent from my Desire HD using CC

does cosmos only accept a certain number of students from each school, in order to create diversity? I’m just curious :O

I got rejected. :Y I thought I was going to get in too… poop

can someone please answer if you know anything about it?
I am really really curious about whether or not cosmos only reserves a certain number of spaces for each school
thanks!

@MomentumA7 Not necessarily by school for diversity, but by ethnicity for sure.

Hope that helps a little. :/

thank you missiris

I didn’t know ethnicity was actually a factor they considered (at cosmos at least).

accepted to UCI astrophysics. my application was nothing out of the ordinary…

Recs: from my Algebra II teacher from last year, and my current physics teacher
gpa: 4.5
-just a note for future applicants: I didn’t even check any of the boxes when it asks you if you’ve ever participated in science or math things… My extracurriculars were not science-based. I put csf, science alliance, nhs, swim, choir. i had leadershipship positions in swim and choir though, which is why i put them down.

i just focused a lot on my essays. I researched and found out that essays were the most important. MAKE IT KNOWN that you REALLY want to be there.

lastly I really wanted to study astrophysics. it might have also been the fact that it’s not a very popular cluster.

good luck!!

Random rant: that’s the problem with these things nowadays. Plus college applications. I personally think ethnicity should play no part in any of this; it should all be determined if the person is qualified or not.

So what if all the qualified people are white/black/asian/etc? The point is that they are qualified. I know a friend who brags ALL THE TIME to asians about having a much higher chance in everything just because he is african american. This is pure racism. Seriously.

Not accepted. And I’m a little bit shocked :stuck_out_tongue:
Here’s what I had:
Sophomore with a 4.33 GPA
Speech and debate president, academic league captain 2 years in a row, John Hopkins talent search AND grand award recipient, member of an exclusive girls science organization that is county based, and (the biggest seller I thought) the self-organizer of a 250 girl conference for empowerment.
I’ve always had a way with a pen, my essays actually made my chem teacher cry (and my mom XD not that that counts haha) and I put in a lot of effort.
I’m not sure what they were looking for, but evidently I wasn’t it. :</p>

Are you guys sure that “Application Status” defines your decision? It’s so vague D:

Also, is competition more fierce ore less fierce depending on the school you applied to?

@Trading Yes, that’s generally true. In past years, I think in past years Irvine was the least competitive and Davis the most (especially with the record ~900 applicants this year, although most of them were probably for biomed/biotech) but that may not always be the case.

I am also curious what they are looking for. Of course, we can all refer back to the stats of people who did get in. However, that does not really help me gain any insight as to what kind of person “fits” cosmos because it’s not as if we can read their essays.

I think I am more confused than shocked? I had the gpa, leadership experiences, ECs, and essay that showed how working on a science competition really allowed me to explore my passion for the subject. Evidently what I managed to put down on the app was just inferior to what other people had to say. Ok. end to my whining session. :)

Repost: Results and stats are more organized on a separate board. I think it would be a good idea if stats were also posted there. :D
