@afourally Yes, “priciest” is a word. lol And no, I’m a sophomore. I’m going to be visiting colleges this summer (couldn’t fit it in my busy spring break) so I wanted to learn a lot about UCSD since that’s the most appealing college for me in Southern California, even though I’m going to be visiting many colleges down there. It would probably be less expensive staying in the dorms, huh?

@chocolatechipsss COOL! Is that the major you want to pursue as well? If so, since you’re already a senior, what colleges are you considering? As mentioned before, UCB, UCSD, and UCD are the most viable as I believe prestige is overrated. I would consider Cal Poly SLO, but they don’t offer ChemE as a major. If I really love it though, I might consider Materials Engineering there.

@ afourally
I think I got my acceptance email the last week of April. It was a school day because I remember checking my email in the library.
@ cosmogony
Every research project is different, but in my case we just wrote all the energies on scraps of paper and everyone grabbed one. My friend gave me the easy one because I was the dumbest one in my cluster and she knew I didn’t want a hard one. Hahaha.
Yeah, ChemE is my first choice major. I’m deciding between UCD (ChemE) and SLO (GenE) right now. I love SLO, but the fact that they don’t have my major is a huge factor for me. If SLO had ChemE, I would go there in a heartbeat. I’m dorming at SLO for a few nights and then touring UCD, so I’ll probably know by the end of spring break where I’m going. I got into UCSD and CPP (rejected from UCLA) for ChemE too, but those schools don’t attract me. If you’re thinking of applying to SLO, I say go for it. You could apply for MatE or GenE with a concentration like I’m thinking of doing. Both are really competitive, so good luck! If you have any questions, PM me so that we can email or you can add me on FB.

Since the application period is two weeks shorter this year, maybe the decisions will come out significantly earlier because there is more time for COSMOS to read every application, and there’s probably a smaller application pool.

@cosmo Yeah it would be cheaper. If you live near ucsd, it’ll be expensive for rent however, you won’t pay that much for gas. If you live in mid SD where its less pricey, you will spend a lot of money on gas. I suppose there could be cheaper areas for living in La Jolla that I don’t know of…but to my knowledge, it’s mos def one of the more high end living areas.

@conorsperry Fingers crossed! Every time I get a new email I hope it’s from COSMOS, despite the fact that my rational mind knows it’s not coming for another month.

As the date looms closer, my anxiety level goes upward. LOL.

I have AP tests to distract me though! ;)

UCD is also a pretty big party school…

@missiris
Not compared to the other UCs, trust me.

I wonder whose going to be the first out of all of us to get our email…

@chocolatechip Did any of your friends apply? If so, did they get accepted? Oh and when you found out, what did you do? x)

@afourally What if we all get it on the same day… there’s going to be like 20+ posts of either “OMG OMG OMG ACCEPTED!!!” and “:’(”

@missiris- if i dont get accepted i just wont go on cc so because i dont need to see all the other people who got in ahah

Yeah, same. If I get rejected, going on CC will just make me all the more disappointed.

@afourally: Thanks! If only I were in your position and could probably just drive to UCSD each day if I wanted. Although then I would be more reluctant about going to college there haha

@choco I used to really want to go to Berkeley for ChemE. I think I could get in because UCB (well, all the UC’s for that matter) focus on GPA and class ranking the most and I’m taking all weighted classes for the next two years (IB) and I’m hoping to keep my rank 3 position (large class of over 650 people). However, I’m beginning to question whether or not the course load is worth it. A viable alternative would be UCD for undergrad (close to home) and then UCB for grad school but I dunno… should I aim for higher for undergrad studies or does it really matter?

@cosmogony I would think UCB for undergrad is still pretty reasonable! :D

Still one more month :’(

Has anybody started studying for AP tests yet?

Ap comparative politics. First day of review is today :p

@ afourally No, I’m the only one out of my friends to apply. It was for the best anyways. I wanted to meet new people without the influence of my friends to hold me back.
@ cosmogony If you plan on going to grad school, undergrad doesn’t matter. UCB has a phenomenal Engineering department, but I personally think the school is overrated. If you’re deciding between Davis and Berkeley, it really boils down to environment because they’re totally different. Do you want someplace urban (Cal) or a total college town (UCD)? Berkeley’s educational environment is more competitive, while Davis’s is more laid back. You just have to evaluate what you want. The one thing that I am adamant about is, don’t live at home. College is a place where you find out who you are. Your parents should not be influences in that process.

By any chance, does anyone know if we’d have access to music rooms? :S (sorry this is really random)

@vivng6991 I know for a fact that UCD allows you to bring an instrument and you can be provided a room for practice if you request ahead of time. I can’t speak for other campuses though.

Which reminds me… I’m so glad I applied to UCD because I found out recently that they have internet for students in the dorms. (Correct me if I’m wrong, but) I believe UCI doesn’t give students access to internet in the dorms, but they can always go to the library.

@choco I definitely wouldn’t live at home but if I were to go to UCD (which has a much better environment for me personally), I would be 20 minutes from home haha Do you think I’d be having the “college experience” if I were to probably have to visit every weekend?

@cosmogony, vivng6991 UCD also has AC! The other campuses do not, so they advise you to bring a fan. :D

@conorsperry Starting next week in all of my classes. >_<

Pretty sure UCSD has internet available. Not 100% though.
What about tennis courts? Pools? Open to us?

I think UCI lets you have room internet as well, as long as you bring your own ethernet cable.

I’m going to UCI, but I play piano so I can’t exactly bring my own instrument… I could always go home for a weekend but I don’t really want to. But I don’t think I can go four weeks without playing either Plus the piano practice rooms at UCI (that I’ve played in) are kind of in the middle of nowhere o__O

@nicolestarb I think the pool is available since I’ve seen it mentioned a couple of times where they talk about things you can do in your free time, and they recommend bringing a swimsuit
