Did any of you guys apply last year??

@graceunderfire How do you think your essays and teacher recommendations were? What did you list as your ECs?

@afourally No, but I should have. I can’t apply again next summer because I’ll be too busy with college apps. :[

I’m pretty before it said notifications will be sent out BY May 1, and now it says ON May 1…does this change things? (or did it always say that…?)

asdflkahsd;flkhasdlkfhf ← my emotions right now

@missiris
I thought my essays were alright, but reading them again now… Not so sure. They seem a bit clipped and short, but they do get to the point. They aren’t creative or relating to any sort of topic, like what college app essays are like, but I made sure my essays described my passion for science.
I’m not counting on my teacher recs, though. I’m not particularly close with any of the two teachers I asked for recs. I don’t fool around in class though, but I’m not that superstar either. Again, it’s average.
For my EC’s I put down Girl Scouts for nine years and outside youth orchestra… I don’t remember anything else. Ahhh… I’m expecting a rejection now.

@graceunderfire Check the previous pages of this thread… Like page 22ish has some good stats from last year’s COSMOS session. And also, looking through this whole thread and seeing other people’s stats can help you compare yourself to the other applicants. Good luck!

@vivng Whatever, I’m still expecting the worst. :]

I feel like I’m the only one thinkin positively on this. We WILL get in guys ;D

@nicolestarb :]

Nope, it has always said ‘on May 1st’

Oh! Did you guys know that in 2004, tuition was only $1000 for Cali residents?! And and at first, there was not a COSMOS program at UCSD? It was only SB, Irvine, and Davis…
I did research because I was bored.

@afourally The tuition increase shows how poor California’s government is… At least we get a discount since we’re in-state. The government does pay $4000+ for us. :]

Today at school (like in half an hour) we’re having a bullying/depression/suicide assembly. Tissue boxes are all over our gym. :/

Just a second ago, I checked my email and the first words in the subject were “UC Davis.” I freaked out because I thought it was my COSMOS decision, but it was actually from some third-party college website promoting the university. I wonder how I’m going to feel when I see the actual decision email.

@coconutman It is not JUST some ‘random’ program. It is, in fact, such a prestigious program that it could set you apart from the thousand college applicants if you are able to attend. Furthermore, this program all matters to us because we, the future engineers, scientists, mathematicians, etc, want to further cultivate our love in STEM related fields and have the opportuinity to become exposed to the research we will eventually do when we are older. Thus making this program worthy enough to ‘obsess’ about.

@coconutman Okay, if you feel that way, you’re lucky I guess. Are you like confident that you’re going to get in? A lot of people can’t say that man!

But no one ever got anywhere without a little stress. :]

@afourally Well said! I agree 100%.

@platyhelminthe Don’t know if you agree or disagree with coconutman.

@coconutman I suggest you look at this. http://cosmos.ucdavis.edu/resources/2011/COSMOS%20UC%20Davis%20Alumni%20Survey%20-%20Results.pdf
It’s a COSMOS alumni survey. I don’t think the results make COSMOS just a random program. Unless you consider Harvard, Stanford, MIT, etc. to be just average. :]

@plat A girl on this thread suggested studying the Hit Vocab book to improve CR scores.

@plat LOL “but seriously pm me” sounds funny. :]

@plat That’s what dictionaries are for. And who said I was judging? Congrats on the 19/19 man. That’s cool. :]

@plat OMG you know Korean. 멋지다. ;]

@ missiris
HEY, my feedback about COSMOS is in there! There was a typo, but mine was, “It changed my life. Not only did it help me figure out what I wanted to do in life, but it also changed me personally. I met friends that will be my friends for life and I feel closer to them than I do to people I’ve known for over three years.”

@chocolatechipsss Cool!!! I remember reading that one. Reading all of those comments made me d’awwww. I didn’t think it was possible for so much to happen in those few weeks at COSMOS… but I guess it is. Sigh. It sounds amazing. :]
