My parents really want me to be a nurse, considering that’s what everyone in my family is…It’s just me and my cousin that doesn’t want to be that. She’s currently studying civil engineering. However, through the years, I’ve learned that I’m more into science and what not. Ugh, so much for being the perfect child for my parents.

Follow your OWN gut, not that of your parents or family or friends.
My parents actually tried to the best of their ability to leave the decision up to me, trying to avoid bias as much as possible, and I couldn’t be more grateful. (All my parents really told me was stay away from humanities lol)

If you do something because your parents tell you to, you’re going to end up resenting them AND what you study. By a happy coincidence, what I want to study is in the same area as what my parents want. (Also my brother is the perfect child which half the time gets them off my back and the other half puts on all the more pressure)

You guys seem pretty awesome! Haha x) Not a lot of people at my school know where they’re going. I have like no one to talk to about college -__- Any of you guys sophomores?

@afourally I’m a sophomore!
And yes, I agree. All of my friends either don’t know what they want to do, believe a humanities major is a viable choice (nothing huge against humanities, but if too many people go that route, there will be no available jobs… plus, how practical is it really?), or just want to become a “doctor” with no specificity.
This is why I want to go to COSMOS so badly. :(

@cosmogony Haha exactly! I really want to go to COSMOS to meet other people “like me”. I think out of all my friends I’m the most ambitious… I mean, a lot of them want to become engineers but just because that’s the new popular major and you can, potentially, make a lot of money, which I think are two horrible reasons to choose a major (good bonuses, but not what you should base your decision on!!)

@cosmo Have you taken the cahsee? Assuming you’re from Cali. My bestfriends sister was a humanities major but switched over to anthropology. All that history stuff is intriguing as well, however, science is just freaking amazing. Words can’t even explain it, haha. Am I right or am I right? x)

I’m a sophomore cashee testing is tomorrow and Wednesday for me. Stocked -_-
I heard its the most boring 2 hours+ of your life XD

Haha, mines is too! I believe everyone in Cali is taking it the same day

lololol The CAHSEE was a joke. We took it early February. -x=-2 …Find x. (I hope that wasn’t too big a spoiler for you guys.) The CAHSEE was a big waste of money and the reason sophomores were made fun of like freshmen for two days. Our school had two days of CAHSEE testing, one for math and one for English. Students would test for 4 hours from 8 to 12 and then regular school would resume (with half of your classes, 40 min per class, each day). It was rather dumb. Since freshmen, juniors, and seniors didn’t have to test in the morning, they went to the mall or Starbucks or did something else that’s fun (like sleeping in). (It helps that our school is downtown and right next to all the popular stores.) Typical conversations with non-sophomores went like this: “What did you do before school?” “I’m a sophomore.” “Oh, loser. You had to take the CAHSEE.” :(

As you can see, I hate the CAHSEE with a passion. Do you know when we get results? I want a perfect score so much… Although results dates will probably be different seeing as we took the exam at different times.

@vivng6991: Funny you should mention that. I decided on becoming an engineer back in 7th grade because I believed it suited me so much. Then I did research and was overjoyed when I found out I’d get a high salary! XD Plus I’d be able to get into good colleges for it because I’m female.

@afourally: You are right. Science is beast.

On a completely unrelated note, have you guys ever found it funny when people say “SAT test” or “CAHSEE exam”… you know, because the acronym itself makes it redundant…

LOL YES! I thought that I was the only one that thought that way. We are such nerds.

Going back on topic…
Guys, I think the wait is going to kill me. More than a month, still.

@cynnek I know. It’s been like 12 days and I think I’m going mad already.

I’m actually pretty cool the waiting now. Maybe it’s because I submitted my application super early (and by that, I really mean a week or two into the application period) and the flame of anxiety is distinguished. I’m a bit bummed by this though… while I’m not going insane, I’m afraid that if I DO get accepted, I won’t be super excited. One step at a time I guess. XD

Hi guys. I was part of UCD’s Cluster 2 (one of the ones with a Physics prereq.) this past summer. If you have any general or specific questions, just post them! :)

@chocolate: Do you remember approximately what day your acceptance letter came? Mid April…May?

I know that some people heard the beginning of May. I tried to find the email, but I posted about my acceptance on the Waiting for COSMOS 2011 thread on the 9th. I wouldn’t stress a lot on your GPA/SAT. My profs told me that THEY actually go over the essays and chose students who seem interested in what the cluster is about.

My friends told me that all you need to look at is the first sentence of the email. If it says congratulations, you’re in. If it says, thank you for applying, you’re not. True?

I honestly don’t remember, but that does ring a bell.
