Dartmouth's greatest rival....?

I've heard a number of different schools mentioned, from Harvard to Brown.

WHo's Dartmouths greates athletic rival?

Who's Dartmouth's greatest academic rival?

Athletic: students always love when Dartmouth beats Princeton or Harvard.

Academic: none as far as I can see.

I don't know about in those two categories, but overall (on CC at least) I'd say it's Penn. They're the two most different schools in the world, but let me explain.

The root of the problem is that Penn got confused once, and thinks it's better than Dartmouth.

You're right, D and penn ARE two of the most different schools in the world. I mean, athletically penn is in the big ten with about 35,000 undergrad. Even if coach paterno retires...penn would still have a huge advantage. And in terms of academics, isnt penn rated like 50 by USNWR even university of Rochester is ranked higher.

Do you mean Pennstate FountainSiren?

Fountain Siren you're a little confused...willywonka was referring to the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League school that most definitely does NOT have 35,000 ug's (more like 9,000). You are talking about Penn State.

i'm not sure if there is a rivalry but i think the school dartmouth is most often compared with is princeton. the two schools also share a lot of cross applicants

i dont mean this as bashing dartmouth in anyway (i think that theyre my first choice), but is dartmouth a lot of peoples second choice to princeton? are there a good amount of students there who would rather be at princeton?

i didn't mean to start any rumors, my perception comes largely from a report i read by president wright last year
(first sentence)

There is a bad amount of students who would rather be at Princeton.

I don't mean to pick on you, mvmillertime, because this is something that's been brewing for a while, I think, but to everyone, for the last time, STOP ASKING IF DARTMOUTH IS A SAFETY SCHOOL. If you think that it is, then fine, don't apply. If you think that it isn't, then do apply. It's a little depressing how many people apparently use this as a criteria for any school that they are considering. If you're asking questions like this, then it probably means that you are uncomfortable with the school for whatever reason, and you probably would not like it. Fine. But just admit that and stop using these safety school excuses.

I must confess, Dartmouth was my second choice after Princeton.

It's a great school.

No kidding Penn state huh. lol

Xanathos,

I'm not so sure that mvmillertime isn't well aware of what he's doing. It seems way to random for someone who just joined cc this month. I just have a feeling about it. although it may be that he has'nt read anything outside these forums that would clearly address his question like almost everyone else already has. I could be wrong.

thanks for the link dcircle!

for me it was Yale. but i think most would say princeton. although if its based on character, i'd say brown--ultra-liberal (THE PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF PROVIDENCE) vs. moderate-conservative (UTOPIAN) dartmouth.

According to the Dartmouth football fight songs, the big rival is Harvard,

For example:

As the backs go tearing by,
On their way to do or die,
Many shouts and many cheers
Mingle with the Harvard tears,
As the backs go .. tearing .. by!
Making gain on steady gain,
Dartmouth's sure to win again,
Dartmouth's sure to win today, Harvard's sure to lose today,
As the backs go .. tearing ... BYYY!

Byerly,

Thanks...you couldn't have a better rival.

Being in the sticks, I'd say its rivals are Middlebury, Williams and maybe Amherst.

Brown and Penn fight for the same kids.

HYP fight with each other.

I'd say you're wrong.

Maybe, but do you have a reason?
