If the Gibson account is telling the truth, I’ve been offered the DHS! I’m trying not to get too excited until I see the actual letter tomorrow though. Congrats to recipients, and good luck to those who haven’t heard yet

Any packages delivered yet this morning??? I am anxiously awaiting the news for/from all of you!! Good luck!

Where in do you see something related to the DHS?

According to the posts above, it should be in the financial aid section under awards.

I didn’t realize that so few kids received this scholarship. Does anyone know how many kids actually apply to this?

Last years letter stated that they had over 1000 applicants.

Actually, compared to almost all other top private schools, this is a lot of full tuition scholarships. I have yet to see a school generally considered a peer of Tulane or above that is as generous with merit money.

2 years ago there were 1300 (plus or minus a few) applicants, according to one of the Deans I talked with. Not sure of the exact number last year, but I suspect it was about the same. As gabby says, the letter just always leaves it general, saying “over 1000”. I think it was jym that said in her son’s year (3 years ago) there was a typo and it said “over 10,000”, lol.

WOW!!! I was never optimistic about this scholarship and now I’m just in shock. I didn’t realize how slim the chances were to get this. Amazing… Thanks for the info.

Correct, FC. I still have the letter! It said 10,000. I thought my DS was a genius to get it!! LOL

Your welcome, dungareedoll, and super congrats to you and your D. It is one of a handful of lifetime highlight moments, for sure. I won’t compare it to winning a smallish lottery, because obviously it isn’t simply chance. But financially, it sure is similar.

Jym - your son is a genius. He just wasn’t a 1 in 10,000 genius for this, LOL. Although who knows, if 10,000 had applied, I feel confident he would have been getting the same letter anyway, and it would have been right!

You heard it here first folks-- and I have it in writing!! LOL . My kid is a genius! And FC has met him, so he knows from what she speaks (is that the right phrase??)

Thanks FC, he is a good kid.

He is indeed. But I am a he. Or did you mean you are the she? But since I called him the genius (and folks, all kidding aside he is really bright, and polite to a fault besides), the phrase would be “I know of what I speak” or since you are saying it “he knows of what he speaks.” Whew! OK, enough back-patting in public.

OOps-- that was a typo, FC. I know you are a “he”.

One of my twin daughters got the good news today. She has a similar profile to 33dmjjm (slightly lower ACT, no sports but lots of dance) and I think a unique but simple project with a strong essay. We are thrilled, but also waiting on pins and needles about the other twin who has a comparable record and a slightly more traditional approach to the project.

I wonder if twins have ever both won before?

did anyone actually receive anything in the mail today?

I’m in New York and no we didn’t get it in the regular mail. Although I was under the impression that we were suppose to receive it via UPS, which is different, right? Isn’t UPS the Brown Trucks? If so they can come at any time.

My D received her UPS envelope at 10:30 this morning. We are very excited! It does feel like winning the lottery!!!

Bad news for us. Tulane confirmed that my daughter didnt get it. We can still hope for the CS but I dont think she would really be in the running for it. Congrats to everyone who received it and good luck to you all.

How did they confirm that? Did you call?
