Delaware Class of 2018 Acceptances

@dogsrthebest I think i mentioned this before although my D did not get into maryland one of her top 3 the process was much easier she applied priority was told she would know jan31they were all told jan27 win or lose that day and it was over so much easier

I get it and I am certainly not a supporter of the process that seems to have unfolded. i was also not a supporter of the late notification years ago. Lessons for them to learn and much improvement needed. My only point was that this is not indicative of how they run the school once accepted. Or at least in our experience.

Well I’m trying to dislike the school anyway, so if my daughter gets rejected we won’t feel so bad… :))

I emailed admissions last Friday and just received this response. So I am thinking we will not be hearing today.
My D applied on October 23rd and applied for University Studies.

Thank you for contacting the University of Delaware! We appreciate your patience while waiting on the admissions decision for your daughter. The application is still under review, and the decision is still waiting to be finalized. Once the decision is finalized, we will send out an official letter and email and post it on her portal. Every application is unique and has a different timeline, which is why some people have heard back while others have not. You should be hearing back shortly.

I agree this year has caused much anxiety for many of us… as @dogsrthebest said… it truly is not indicator as to how the school runs. I was happy to be at the accepted students reception and KNOW that all they said in terms of how the school runs and procedures were 100% true from personal experience. I think their advisors are top notch and truly give the kids good advice and ways to tackle their course load. I know in his 2nd year in charge the head of admissions tried something different. Unfortunately we were all the guinea pigs for it!

For anyone that was given a specific date and that date has since passed, you have a legit beef with the system. Unless that’s the case, take into consideration the following:

Largest applicant pool ever
Common App problems
Horrific mid-Atlantic weather season

I know its painful to wait…but Delaware is not alone…we are waiting on American, Geo Wash, UNC, UGA, Mich, and Ohio State.

Thank you for the sane words JMD1964!!

It is a Friday and past 3:00 pm, and my portal says nothing different. I guess I’m waiting another week again.

My S just heard yes…posted this afternoon! He is soooo happy!!

@ soccermom21 congrats to your son! nothing different for us :(

@soccermon21…CONGRATS!!! See it all worked out for your S. A long hard wait but now you can breath a sigh of relief. Just because there was a delay doesn’t mean a wait list or a denial. For those still waiting there is good news still to arrive so be patient and positive.

Soccermom21:
Congrats on your son’s acceptance. Did he get into the major he had applied to? I know you had some concern about that. Does he plan on attending?

Quite frankly, they have no excuse. ALL schools in the same region have experienced the same scenarios. And I really couldn’t care if my D didn’t hear until April 1st - IF THAT’S WHAT THEIR OWN COMMUNICATION SAID. I have a problem with the January letter asking for 1st semester grades that said they are just waiting to finalize their decision based on the grades. I have a problem with the infamous " you should be hearing from us within the next two-to-three weeks". That’s my issue. Take until April 1st. Just be up front. Now, I think if my D was accepted she will decide not to go - Delaware has really dropped from her radar - so this really doesn’t matter to her. But I think it’s very unfair to those who are very much anticipating their reply.

So, we are on our way to visit UDel. My daughter will probably fall more in love with the school…only to be rejected soon after. But who knows, demonstrated interest may help?! Very disappointed they couldn’t decide 4 weeks after they told us 2 to 3 weeks.

I was in South Jersey last night for a friend’s daughter cheer fundraiser… many saw the mom’s of many girl’s that my D cheered with. Many applied to UD that are seniors this year. Of the 8 I am friends with 3 of the 8 had not heard yet. One applied early on and one in January. So there are still quite a few floating around out there.

To those still waiting, good luck. No news is not bad news. Also, I saw on college board that a very high % of kids got in off wait list in the past…so don’t be too disappointed if that’s the result. To Mwallenmd, my S did get the acceptance and into his first choice major. Someone asked if he will go…I think so. This seems to be his #1 choice…he did not rank schools prior to acceptances (at least to us)…we encouraged him not to because we didn’t want him overly disappointed. He was wait listed at a school we thought he’d get into (heard today) and into schools we thought he would not get. So I’m glad he didn’t pick a first choice before now!

found this site today… very interesting as to the wait list numbers… about 2/3 waitlisted got admitted. Certainly worht a shot for those who really have their heart set on UD. I called and asked admissions if they ever reconsider a position in the business school… For example… perhaps they offered up a lot of spots to kids who decided not to attend…Would there be a chance they would then contact my son and offer him a spot. The answer was no. Oh well it was worth a shot to ask!

Hi to everyone waiting. There was a comment about whether or not showing desire improved your chances. I think it does if you are borderline. It think it matters more than most people realize. JMO tho. In looking over all the results that are coming in, I have to say that the few that we didn’t visit, attend, interview, etc - we were waited listed, with a few exceptions. Got into Penn State UP without visiting and StonyBrook and Manhatten College. But we have been all over UDel since my S’s junior year - been to three blue & golds, multiple tour days, did an interview, sat in a class. Told the guidance counselor it was #1. Wrote on the supplemental essary that it was #1 - so yes, I think showing desire does factor in. So if he was a borderliner - it may have helped. We never visited TCNJ and got denied, for example. Anyway, UDEL was our #1 choice for years so we are happy and now just trying to figure out how we’re going to afford it  - and my S did get is major of choice. @meishat and others still waiting…PLEASE call you S/D’s guidance counselor and have them make a call on your behalf. Again - it shows desire! God Bless and Good Luck. Anyone registered for the Princeton admitted students day?

Have to agree with @DoubleDel. D did tour of Udel and went for interview which I think helped as she had a chance to explain her less than stellar test scores, showcase her personality and express her feelings about Udel. On the flip side, she was first deferred early action to Bentley and ultimately wait listed. She did tour the campus but with a friend’s cousin so did not register for a tour. Her name was never in a database there. Syracuse has pretty much dropped off the face of the earth. She did not tour there and has heard nothing since her initial log in info was provided. She was accepted to every school we toured. Just food for thought.

I really hope my interview helped. It gave me a chance to explain that my SAT scores aren’t perfect. I want to major in fashion merchandising so I told the rep how much I love fashion and and I even wore something I sewed myself. Going on the interview made me feel more comfortable about applying. I really hope I get accepted.
