Please help me to understand what this means. Nephew’s My Blue Hen account says he will be notified by mail. Already accepted at CU Boulder and American University. Was awarded the Level 7 ROTC scholarship for Delaware. This is a stressful waiting process. Is this a letter that will say wait list? Guidance counselor said not to worry? Appreciate anyone in the same situation.

From whom did your nephew receive the notification of the ROTC scholarship award? As long as the ROTC scholarship was announced/awarded by/thru UD (not some separate source) then I would agree with your nephew’s guidance counselor-he is in. I have never heard of UD awarding/announcing any type of scholarship/merit aid or even any other type of financial aid to students in any category other than being accepted. If, on the other hand, the announcement of the award came directly from the military, did it state that the award was contingent upon his acceptance to UD? . If this is the case then he still will need to wait for his decision. good luck.

@miesha5 you are having a hard go at it.
Keeping fingers crossed for you guys that this week is your week!!

My analysis of what has happened this year with the problems we have had in the delay in finding out about decisions is as follows. UD has reportedly gotten a record number of admission applications. They certainly should have used more accurate communications in keeping people posted about what is happening and when decisions could be expected and certainly you could fault them for these things. Hopefully they will learn from this in future years. On the other hand applicants need to keep in mind that UD, unlike many Flagship State Universities, does actually utilize all the many things it lists as factors in determining admission decisions. If they primarily just used SAT/ACT scores (like many universities do) this process would have been over long ago. So applicants should keep in mind, even though it is very stressful to have to wait longer than expected for a decision, that UD does adhere to its admission review components (which take a lot of time to do well) in an attempt to make the process as fair as it can be to all applicants, and I think most applicants would agree that they would want this even if it takes longer than they would hope/like to receive a decision. With April 1 being a week from Tuesday it would be my perspective that most people still waiting to hear will hear this coming week. My perspective is that if you have not received a rejection notice by this time that the majority of people still waiting to hear will be accepted or at the very worse waitlisted. However, whatever the outcome, IMHO you can at the very least feel assured that your application was reviewed in a fair manner consistent with all the things UD reports that it looks at in making its decisions. Just my perspective. Others may feel differently. Again good luck to all those still waiting.

D accepted in early Feb. I’m surprised some have not heard yet.

I’m praying this is the week of good news for all who are waiting! We are in the same boat with TCNJ and the horrible waiting! It’s crazy and none of us will ever understand the admissions process of these schools. My D got accepted to schools that we never visited with a lot of merit so I find that strange if a student who visited and showed interest hears nothing! This is all crazy and the poor stress on the parents is worse than it is for the kids!
My fingers and toes are crossed for all that this is the week for good news!!

At this point I have done every chance me site out there and all say that many people with the same statistics as my son have been accepted however an equal number have not. He applied in late October, we did a UD Discovery Day over the summer and he had an interview in November that seemed to go well. He plays 2 Varsity sports and has numerous clubs and volunteer work. SAT was 560/610/550 of 1720 and a 3.48 GPA
I know I rpbably only have a week more to wait but was wondering if others with these statistics have been accepted or denied?

You can’t really compare students who are accepted or not to UD by looking primarily at SAT/ACT scores. These are not as important as some other things that UD gives greater emphasis to in making their decisions. I wrote the following recently on another thread " However the most important thing UD utilizes in its admission decisions is rigor of HS classes, GPA and grades in major academic courses (Math, Lab Sciences, English, Social Sciences, History, and Foreign languages). UD actually recalculates an applicant’s GPA looking just at these types of courses for most majors. Also they look especially at the grades a student gets in Honors/AP classes as they like to see that students are willing to challenge themselves by taking such courses and can do well in them. They also like to see students take 5 major courses in both semesters of their senior year of HS. They take a dim view of applicants who decide to “coast through” their senior year of HS. The essay is also is very important. UD does actually read these and they certainly can be a deciding factor for some students. I understand UD got a record number of applications this year and I suspect that part of the reason that decisions appear to be delayed for some students is that they are looking at all of these things to make sure the process is “fair” to all applicants." In fact several years ago an in-state applicant from Delaware became indignant that UD did not accept her to the 4 year Program in Newark but rather just offered her a 2 year Associates Degree Program even though her SAT scores totaled over 2250. She had done well grade wise her first 3 years of HS but decided to just coast thru her Sr. year and gave little effort to getting good grades her first semester. This same student was accepted to several “very” prestigious schools because of the SAT scores and just couldn’t understand why UD did not accept her to the 4 year Program in Newark. Good luck to your son. I suspect most all those still waiting will hear by the end of this week.

Thank you, I hope you are right!

My D applied biz and was denied admission at the end of February. Her SATs were 510/550/560 (not the best), 3.75 GPA, National Honor Society Jr. and Sr. year, Varsity FH since Sophomore year, Class Secretary Jr and Sr. year, consistently on honor roll and/or high honor roll, and tons of community services…plus more! We attended Blue and Gold day, her sister is a 2008 UD grad from Lerner, and I have even made donations to the UD parents fund (which I wanted to do and will continue to do…my older daughter got a wonderful education from UD). I called admissions and the counselor said it was to do with her choice of major. I asked if they would reconsider if she changed her major to University Studies because honestly she is really not sure biz is what she wants and has always thought that. They didn’t say yes or no, but did give me a name for her to email and suggested she change her major within the portal. She made the change to her major and sent a letter to admissions. Since submitting her email to be reconsidered, she has won an award for a competition she entered, which I sent to admissions. To date we have not heard back from anyone. Not sure why or what that means? (A side note: during my conversation with the counselor it was my understanding that they are not wait-listing this year…it is just yes or no…I think?) Anyway, she is going to follow up with admissions again, but she has moved on and has focused her energy into the other great schools she has been accepted to. Yes, she was definitely disappointed since UD was her #1 school, but I have been very impressed by her positive attitude and determination to blaze new trails for herself. She will succeed at whatever school she selects!

Of course my daughter loved the UD campus. Today her status changed from “application under review” to “once decision is made official notification will come in the mail”. Is this bad sign?

@BigDecision22…no that is not a bad sign. In most cases it changes to that and can stay like that for months. In your case it won’t be months since you are near the end. That status means nothing more than our official notification is by mail even though we post online, official is mail. Almost all of us who received acceptances for our kids had that message and got in. In fact some had the message bounce back and forth between that and your application is under review. Good Luck, I can only hope for you that this means there is movement.

@Grk4459… Excellent attitude and parenting!!

@grk4459 I agree, great attitude! Question, did anyone at admissions every acknowledge that they are reopening her application for University Studies? I would always be worrying about a computer glitch or someone that got your letter never reactivated her application.

@lefty1 Thank you, and thank you @dogsrthebest. No, no acknowledgement received and my D followed up on her original request and I followed with the info from her award. I do think about some type of glitch etc. and that is why my D is going to reach out to UD again. Like I said, not sure why we haven’t heard anything. I know they are probably swamped, but some type of notification would really be appreciated at this point.

I would definitly call the school or have your D’s guidance counselor do it as they might get further up the ladder. Most of the time a student is the person answering the phone and the info is not always very detailed/specific. I would think a guidance counselor would be able to get more info for you.

@dogsrthebest I called my Ds guidance counselor the Monday after my D found out she wasn’t accepted and she claimed that it’s not common practice for them to call. She said she has done it a couple of times in the past but for very particular situations. It’s a small HS and not the best advising unfortunately. I did ask her what she thought if I called admissions and she told me to give it a try. I was lucky and was able to speak with one of the counselors who did the presentation at the Blue and Gold day we attended - not a student. She didn’t say yes or no to reopening my Ds app as a University Studies major…she just gave me an email for my D to send a request for reconsideration and suggested she change her major in the portal. I thought that was a somewhat good sign, but to date no change has been made on the portal and no acknowledgment to any of our correspondence??? We just want to know if they are in fact reconsidering! There are so many different stories and scenarios on this forum, I just wanted to share mine, or should I say my Ds.

Our D and one of her best friends applied to UD for Nursing. Her friend subsequently changed her mind about nursing but did not contact UD to make them aware of this (she wanted education major). She subsequently received a rejection notice for nursing and immediately contacted UD and informed them of her interest in changing her major and requested being reconsidered for this new major. She was advised to email this request to them which she did immediately. She received no response from them and her portal did not change. About 4 days later she checked her portal (she really didn’t think it was going to work) but it had changed to the acceptance Congratulatory message for the new major. Obviously this was just her experience but I just thought I would share her experience with you. I would agree that it still would be a good idea to contact them to see if they honored her request for reconsideration. Best of luck to her.

I would call admissions again with respect to making sure the major changed and that they will indeed reconsider her. They are a big school so I wouldn’t assume anything until you have verification.
