Delaware Class of 2020 Acceptances

rumorsareflying:

Historically UD has tended to shy away from allowing individuals to switch the major they were accepted into to another major before enrolling. I think a lot would depend upon the major a student was accepted into and what the major is they want to switch to. If the new major is a “Restricted Major” (only a set number of slots available) then the odds of being able to be allowed to do this are probably poor. The list of “Restricted Majors” can be found on the Registrars website under the “student tranferring of major” section. If a student would want to move from a more specific major to say a “General Studies” major it might be more doable. If you have been accepted to UD then you should contact the admission’s office and inquire about this. Good luck.

Thank you for your advice! You always have the best advice on this forum.

I applied to UD four weeks ago and heard back just this week, which was surprising. I didn’t expect to hear back until April. I got accepted for nursing and I won’t know if I got accepted to the Honors program until March.

Wow that’s great news for you @lionceph7 ! My daughter applied to the nursing program as well so I was wondering what your stats were as a comparison. I don’t expect she will know anything until April, since her application was complete only January 5th.

SAT: 2070/2400
GPA: 3.7 out of 4.0
My high school doesn’t do class rank
Took 3 APs, 4 honors courses
Captain of varsity swim team
Student council member
Special Olympics volunteer
Club swimming
Part of church service/justice ministry
Swim instructor at our recreation camp over the summer
(I did a lot less ECs than I hear others usually do but club swimming took up a lot of my time)

Thank you so much for posting. You seem to be quite accomplished, and I don’t think more EC’s are better, it’s the quality of the EC’s that count, obviously in your case as you were admitted to a very difficult major. Congrats @lionceph7

Thanks!

Does anyone know when more acceptances are expected to be released? Like does UDel give admissions decisions in batches?

Son accepted to Delaware (Honors). GPA 4.0 UW, all AP or honors. ACT 35. SAT2s 800/760. Varsity athlete, good teacher recs/ECs. He applied months ago and listed biochemistry but is now leaning toward biomedical engineering. He emailed admissions yesterday to see if that was possible. Anyone ever hear of someone changing a proposed school/major like this?

In general UD tends to shy away from accepted students changing their major prior to enrollment but it has been done. Biomedical Engineering is a highly “Restricted Major” with relatively few slots available so it is wise that your son contacted them right away. I can’t speak for UD but your son’s stats are exceptional so “perhaps” it might be possible. Good luck.

Congrats to everyone accepted so far. My daughter keeps checking the portal where it just says application status and there is the checklist with everything checked off. Is that where she would find the wording changed to accepted?? It seems as if a letter comes first for many people?

@bklyn14 My daughter got her letter before the portal changed.

How long did it take to get a response? DS applied in Nov but in Jan we discovered that his scores didn’t get sent so we re-sent on 1/4. Just wondering if a month is enough time after that or will it be longer?

They say 8-12 weeks after all items are submitted, so you may have some time to wait. My S had all credentials in by 11/29 and we are still waiting.

I was accepted yesterday into the Honors program. I submitted the app on December 18th, just to give you guys another reference point on their turnaround. Delaware’s pretty fast!

My S was accepted on 2/1 into Mech Engineering and the Honors program, but we didn’t find out until yesterday. Submitted his application on 12/19, with the honors essay following by a few days.

He found out in a roundabout way after he received an email inviting him to apply to the new Delaware Innovation Fellows Program. That’s when he went and checked is application portal and saw the admissions decision.

Nothing on any sort of merit aid, so we’re hoping that information normally follows the admission decision and isn’t a part of the initial notification.

My daughter submitted application mid December and was accepted to Delaware yesterday as an Applied Nutrition Major in the College of Health Sciences.

To clarify - OOS , 92.7 GPA , 27 ACT, extra curriculars, employed part time, volunteers, captain of a varsity team, president of a High School club, 7 APs and College German. Applied Nutrition Major in the College of Health Sciences - have not received letter yet but heard online.

did you receive applications 8ish weeks after your application or when all of your materials were submitted? My sats lagged behind my application and other materials by a few weeks, so I’m wondering when i will hear. Also it seems the students who are better qualified are hearing earlier…

My D received letter of acceptance on 1/11/16 but has yet to hear anything about merit scholarships. She more than meets the criteria…33ACT, over 4.0 gpa (weighted), AP classes, etc…anyone else having same experience?
