i have this weird feeling im gonna be the 1 student who gets rejected after a likely letter...that would suck cuz ive kinda grown attached

Robocop,

Breathe...

Unless you fail out of high school, have a disiplinary action that gets you thrown out of high school, go to jail, come to Dimensions and get arrested, you will be coming to Hanover in the fall if that your desire.

I know they don't call it March Madness just because of basketball season, but relax. if you have a likely letter the big envelope will come at the end of the month.

What is the Date(s) of Dimensions this year?

Re: come to Dimensions and get arrested, Sybbie's comment.
My son's first year roommate did succeed at getting 2 prospies arrested and placed in jail by encouraging their underage drinking. The Hanover Police, rather than the college safety and security, controlled because of some issues as to legal territory.
The upshot, after some turbulence, was to accept the arrested prospies. My son's roommate was expelled for this and academic issues. I think the Dimensions incident was the straw that broke the camel's back, in his case.
Happily, my son's roommate returned, more or less on the straight and narrow, and is now set to graduate, although not at the same time as his class.
Dartmouth will treat you as a '12 whether you graduate with your class or not.
Pretty neat, IMO.

Not exactly related, but Dr. Seuss became the pen name of Theodor Geisel because Geisel was barred by Dartmouth to write for campus publications after some action beyond the pale of the administration. So the name "Dr. Seuss".
I mean this not to impugn Dartmouth administrators, but, in a weird way, to affirm Dartmouth as a place to spend 4 years of your life.
The dots are connected for me. It's my fault if they are not for you.

Are we allowed to chose out hosts for dimensions or are we assigned them?

you will be assigned a host.

You are "assigned" a host, but you can DEFINITELY room with a friend. I went to Dimensions last year and there were 4 extra ppl in our room b/c it was a quad and there were a lot of friends from high school/ whatnot.

As for the arrests made during Dimensions-- yea, I mean you can drink all you want, but just know your limit, S &S aren't going to stop you if you drank, only if you're literally falling all over the place, ****ing on buildings, or vomiting. That's IT. They're quite lenient. But, at the same time, watch out for H-po, which is the local police, they're more strict during big events like Homecoming, Dimensions, and Winter Carnival.

dimensions is on the same day as prom (the 19th), what should i do?

You don't have to stay all 3 days...the last day are mostly repeats anyway. :)

really? oh that would be awesome if i could leave on friday, i mean i have already visited anyway with the NFI.

yea i might do the same if i actually go...i have a flight on saturday so i would def have to leave early

im planning to take a train from dc to catch the boston bus. ny1 from the dc area?

Amtrak has a train that goes to White River Junction, VT which is only about 10 minutes from Hanover NH- there are always lots of cabs waiting for Dartmouth kids to get off the train. If you are taking the train from DC anyway, why switch to a bus? The Amtrak line in question is called, I think, The Vermonter. My son is a freshman at Dartmouth and has taken it a few times from a stop in NJ.

times are very limited. it says the vermonter comes in at 6:50 and technically check in time is by 7....hmm i just checked it is cheaper. huh. idk.

Hi momofrower,
I also live in NJ. My son will attend the Dimension event this year. We would like to attend too as much as the college allows us to attend, but there is no info provided in the admission pkg that gives me the hotel info or transporation info for parents.
Do you have a phone numbe rof web address for The vermonter? How much does it cost for RT? Thanks.

Hi robinhood,

The best way to get up-to-date information on the Vermonter is from the Amtrak website. We usually drive to Hanover if we go as a family but my son takes the train sometimes when he goes up alone. We drive him to the MetroNorth train station which is near Edison in Central NJ. He stays on the same train all the way- he does not have to change trains when the train gets to Penn Station in NYC. It is a long trip but full of Dartmouth students.

That said, there is another choice which is a bus that goes back and forth between NYC and Dartmouth at certain times of the year such as the start and end of the winter and spring breaks. These are very popular buses however and my son always forgets to make a reservation so he had never been on it. I think they leave from midtown Manhattan near Grand Central Station.

My son also went on the Dartmouth outing club's freshman trip last September and, in that case, there were buses that took off from the east side of Manhattan. I forgot exactly where but I think was by York Avenue.

There are lots of hotels near Dartmouth but they tend to get full at popular times so you should make reservations as far in advance as possible. We often stay at the Courtyard by Marriott in Lebanon which is very convenient, as long as you have a car. if you go up by train yourself (and don't rent a car when you get there) the only place I know where you can stay within walking distance of the college is the Hanover Inn.

Hmm... anyone mind hosting an ED kid? PM me if you're interested?
