Yes. When you turn in the form, put them down as the person you want to room with.

^Does the gender of our roommate matter?

It does. All rooms are single sex from what I can tell. Unless it’s a suite but then you can’t share a room with them but they can room with another same sex person in the suite.

^ Hmm…What’s the likelihood of my friend and I being on the same floor if we can’t be in the same room?

I’m not sure of that. I guess it depends on the dorm. Oh, but Towers has single sex floors.

hey guys, i think i’ve narrowed down my top choices to towers, warren and 575.

but i was wondering if i could get more info/photos on any of those residences besides what they provide us on the BU housing site?

also, how far away from CAS is towers and 575?

thanks!

Towers and 575 are maybe a 10 minute walk from CAS. It actually takes me 5-10 depending on how slow I happen to be that day. And Towers is right behind 575 so you can just walk to the dining hall.

What else do you want to know?

This post was edited for privacy reasons.

CAS is one block from Towers and HoJo.

What people don’t realize is that being a CAS student doesn’t mean that all your classes will be in the CAS building. Many of them will be in places like Morse, Kenmore classroom building, Science building, that math building behind warren, 808, etc.

“Are you interested in a single-occupancy, dormitory-style room?”

I haven’t done the survey yet, but this question is asking if you want a single dorm for yourself right?

As an SMG student, what should my choice be for a good social experience?

Warren

Towers

West (any specifics of the 3 buildings?)
4.
5.

Yeah, that option will give you a single. 575 is actually the closest to SMG than Warren, Towers, or West. The most social dorm is Warren but it’s also the noisiest.

You can’t choose a specific building in West.

I’d say you should do 1. warren 2. towers 3. west 4. hojo 5. shelton

Stay away from myles or danielsen.

I think West is pretty far removed from campus. I wouldn’t pick it as an option. At the very least it’s a long walk to SMG, especially in the winter.

Thanks Hanita and Nickel. Those options look great, though I would want West as a superback up in case Warren falls through. The email I just received said: “Our work on your room assignment will begin once your completed Housing Interests Survey and $650 enrollment deposit are received.” I guess this means that priority room assignments will be intact based on date of deposit. Still have to run my acceptance through guidance/teachers before I drop the deposit, since we heard Friday about decisions and had Spring Break the entire week. You guys have been more than helpful :)

Hanita

Just curiousl. why should we stay away from myles and danielsen?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but how exactly do the “floor” bathrooms work(non-private)?

It just means you share the bathroom with everyone. Think locker room style bathrooms. There are lockers in there for you to keep your stuff.

^ oh wow i definitely want a private bathroom. I guess i should go for Hojo then?

Yeah, the most reasonable place you can get in as a first year and still have a private bathroom is Hojo. The only drawback is that you have to clean your own bathroom. Just some tips, even numbered floors on Hojo have a lower ceiling. The second floor has doubles and singles but I doubt you’ll get one. The rooms are smaller than the rest of the building there, though. The 7th floor has the biggest rooms.

samsung, both are quite far from the center of the campus - especially Danielsen. There aren’t many freshman, and the dorms are quiet and not social at all. I know a couple of freshman who got put in there, and none of them like it. Especially the people who live in Danielsen are complaining all the time - they have to take the shuttle bus to get to class because it’s just really far. Most of them end up sleeping on the floors of friends’ rooms in Warren.

I’d also like to say that sharing a bathroom with your floor is not nearly as bad as it sounds. At home I have my own bathroom so I dreaded having to share one in warren. It turned out to be the least of my problems. It’s not a big deal at all and you’ll get used to it sooner than you think.
