Dressing Young (Part 1)

re Footloose, actually the 80’s are back, unfortunately. Just check out the most recent Urban Outfitters catalog. You couldn’t pay me enough money to dress like that again! Lucky for UO, I am not their target demographic. Their customers have no idea how silly the look is – yet. Just give them 20-30 years and they too will get to cringe.

I just heard officially on 48 Hours that shoulder pads are back.

I actually look good in shoulder pads, since I have sloping shoulders, so I guess I should be pleased…the next thing you know, someone will revive peplum suits. I hated them the first time round.

toneranger, since NYDJ do not work for you, I have to put in my regular David Kahn plug:
[David Kahn Jeanswear](http://www.davidkahnjeanswear.com/index.php?option=com_flippingbook&Itemid=285)
These jeans are low cut, but not so low cut that they fall off of a woman’s derriere. Unlike the Sevens and other designer brands prefered by teens, these jeans are usually sold in the departments where trendy ladies of our age shop. Or if paying $160 for a pair of jeans in not your cup of tea, Nordstrom Rack often has them for $50-60. I bought a pair similar to these: [David Kahn Jeanswear - 3747 Nikki Low Rise Boot Cut Aegean Wash](http://www.davidkahnjeanswear.com/index.php?option=com_flippingbook&Itemid=285&book_id=127) and I live in them!

mousegray, take a peek at American Apparel - :)

I specifically didn’t refer to 80s clothes. I was talking about the hair. I haven’t seen the claw bangs come back yet.

I was on a quest recently to find some new jeans and it was not easy! Unlike many of the others who have been posting on this thread, skinny jeans are not me. I am built curvier – with hips – and straight jeans do not fit me. I finally found jeans that work for me and look great and at a decent price. They’re stretchy and even though they’re lower cut, they don’t gap when I bend down. I found them at Nordstrom’s and the brand is KUT from the Kloth. And they’re on sale now!

[KUT from the Kloth Five Pocket Jeans - KUT from the Kloth - Nordstrom](http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3029445/0~2376776~2374325~6011008?mediumthumbnail=Y&origin=category&searchtype=&pbo=6011008&P=1)

Are there any petite people reading this about jeans and finding it depressing? I’m about 5 foot tall and wear a 4P. For me, low rise means the waist is just barely below my navel. The KUT from Kloth doesn’t even come in petite sizes and the inseam is 34" - meaning an extra $10 for hemming. My son, who is about 6’ wears a 32" inseam. Any suggestions for skinny jeans for petites?

I am 5’2" 3/4 and I found some Old Navy Jeans in my Ds(5’8" ) closet that are skinny ( Diva ) I think they must have a 32" inseam.
<a href=“Old Navy”>Old Navy;
I have relatively long legs for my height though, I like the low waist jeans cause like Kathiep, they still hit slightly below my waist instead of under my chin.

kathiep – I wear petite sizes as well, but since the jean selection in petite sizes is more limited, I ended up looking at regular sizes. As it turned out, the regular size fit better since they were low rise, so paying an extra $10 to get them hemmed was worth it to me.

Even though I’m over 5’ 4" I used to be able to buy an occasional petite size in pants and wear them right off the rack, especially pants I would normally wear with flats. But I find that with the longer hems being worn now, I just can’t get away with that anymore. Regular seems to be sized a little bit differently overall - at this point, I’ve pretty much accepted that I’ll need to hem almost everything.

kathiep-Joe’s Jeans makes a couple of petite styles. They fit my short legged girls perfect but they don’t particularly care for the styling as they find them a bit old lady. (granted what they consider old lady is probably not what we consider old lady). I think what my girls don’t care for is they have a slightly higher rise but they are not anywhere near the waist. They are expensive but at Nordstrom’s rack you can find them for less.

I am very short waisted. When I put on regular jeans the waistband can reach the bottom of my ribs. Roshke, a female that is 5’4" in our family would be considered tall!

Women’s sizes are stupid. Why aren’t there inseam sizes like in Men’s pants? While there is a slightly different fit between different styles, On Friday I was able to buy my older son a pair of jeans 32" x 32" and my younger son a pair of 30" x 30" jeans and the boys were able to pull them on, zip 'em up and they were good to go.

BES- I love those KUT jeans/pants too- I have some that are denim looking, but are some nicer fabric, found them at the Rack.

Interestingly, I am not at all curvy, no hips, no waist, just straight up and down, but I am muscular, so maybe ‘curvy’ means you have something on your bones? I also have a pair of jeans from the GAP and they are lower rise curvy and they too fit my non-existent waist.

When I think of curvy, I think of tiny waist and rounded hips, so would never think to try on curvy pants, but I have found several pairs that fit my waist and still allow me to breathe without adding jodhpur looking extra fabric at the hips & thighs. So if you’ve no waist, try some of these curvy styled jeans. Perhaps the trick is that they are set ‘below the waist’ so just don’t nip back in?

^^^ Agreed on inseam for women! I often want to have a shorter pant/jeans to wear with flats or athletic shoes and have a heck of a time finding “short” length.

Kut makes great denim skirts. I ended up paying full price for one because it fit so well and was really cute! Now that I’ve lost weight, it slides off of me.

HUMPF!!! My H said last night that he thinks I may be dressing “too young.” I have recently bought all new clothes due to weight loss. I have nice new skinny jeans, fashionable tops, long sweaters, etc. I can wear fitted clothes now and they look nice. Nothing too tight or low-cut. I have one pair of Not Your Daughters Jeans that are mid-calf with a rolled cuff that are so cute–that’s what my H dislikes the most. He said he had jeans like that when he was a little boy! Maybe he doesn’t like having a wife who looks better?

Bookiemom, that would be a very interesting thing to study - when wives lose weight, how many husbands want their wives to really flaunt it in new clothes, and how many get all territorial and don’t want their wives to look “too good.”

I think you’re on to something, Bookiemom!!!

He may just be a little worried about just how good you look! Take heart and keep your new clothes, because what we know is that when we feel good about ourselves, they actually benefit. And that is all I will say ;)

I thought about this thread recently when buying this jacket for myself:

[Miss Sixty Women’s Double-breasted Wool Pea Coat | Overstock.com](http://www.overstock.com/Clothing-Shoes/Miss-Sixty-Womens-Double-breasted-Wool-Pea-Coat/4093544/product.html?recommendation_id=ffc354ae-c7f1-4957-ad74-689b6754fce0.1)

It fit really well on me and I liked it but wasn’t sure if it looked too trendy and young.
So, I gave it to my D who looks great in it!

It’s a fine line we walk…

Mousegray, ask her to return it to you! I think that would be a great coat!
