There were several posts going around how last year those that were accepted into the honors program seemed to get less merit aid than those not accepted into honors.... it made no sense to me. I'm glad that doesn't seem to be the case this year!

I'll just give a little snippet.

Varsity Kickline Team, National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, stage manager for my school's musical for the past 2 years, got my GS gold award last year, about 350-400 community service hours in the past 3 years, steady job at a library for the past 2 years.

And, maybe this is a stupid question, what is a URM?

this stinks i feel that we are totally equal because i have 40 more points on the SAT than u do but u have a lot of community service on ur side, u said u got 14k/yr right?

btw..URM= under represented minority

I finally got the letter opened. I'm in for the Honors Program and I got into the Pharmacy program.

I didn't get any merit aid.

I called their office and they gave me the number of the counselor whom they said could answer all my questions. I called a couple of times and got her voicemail each time.

About NEU being my safety, let's just say it's so not true. NEU is tied at the very top with this other school in California as my top choice schools. I didn't even apply to any big-name schools really because what really mattered most to me was the kind of pharmacy program they had.

I'm just a little freaked out by this. I didn't get ANY money! :( :( :(

Hey, do not fret! You never know which scholarships you'll get in the upcoming months. With your stats, you'll be getting quite a few. I did say that I got 14K/year, but that doesn't mean I'll be getting anything else. I applied for scholarships, but I'm crossing my fingers for something stupendous.

And I'm definitely not a URM. I see myself as a "mutt". I have too many cultures in my bloodstream.

That makes absolutely no sense. Honors program and no merit? Possibly a mistake?

thanks for the support neon. does anyone know if there has ever been cases of people receiving more merit aid later in the admissions process, like after regular decision?

Could it be just a mistake? I'm seriously hoping it is.

"That makes absolutely no sense. Honors program and no merit? Possibly a mistake?"

Do people who get accepted to the Honors program usually get merit aid?

The one's that posted here in this thread all did, I believe.

If i got 'accepted' to the business school, do i have to go to the business school or can i go to the Arts and Sciences School?

does anyone know if there has ever been cases of people receiving more merit aid later in the admissions process, like after the regular decisions have been released??

bumppppppppp?

The award letter says that I'll be considered for more scholarships. So, I guess, they keep the review gong. They might have released the admissions decisions first...

hopefully i receive more merit aid, NEU is my number 1 but is just not do-able at 36k/yr

RatedPG, another thought: may be they mismatched merit awards with wrong id numbers in some cases. So if your D makes enquiries they may be able to set right any mistakes (But some who have awards now may lose them. Just a random thought.)

collegebound - I think you have me confused with someone else. D got honors and $16k (which so far is the most I have seen). I think mediocreme is the one who might have a mistake - honors program and no merit aid.....

Sorry, RatedPG. Yes, I was thinking of mediocreme. Apologies.

mediocreme, I have no idea why you wouldn't have gotten anything...maybe grasping at straws here but this is what it said in the fine print of my letter-

"Your scholarship will cover up to the equivalent of eight (8) academic semesters, with the exception of students in the PharmD and Physical Theraphy programs, who will receive the scholarship for the approved length of the program."

I know they're talking about length because those might be longer, but maybe there's a chance that separate department hasn't made decisions about money yet??

Uggg... NEU is my dream school but I only got 5k. I have a 4.0 uw GPA, 1990 SAT score (1290 M and V). I am involved in all kinds of community activities, work summers in a daycare, am one of the top distance runners in my state (a two year captain), and babysit my two younger brothers (3 and 1) in my spare time). I wish I got more aid!

You think it would help to call the admissions office and check with them? If so, cough what would I ask?

"I didn't recieve any merit scholarships but got into the honors program.. Why?" is kind of rude...

Thanks
