I checked my mail today and I got a really cool gray folder along with the invitation to the Bowdoin Experience 2009!! I am so excited..!! They are going to cover my travel expenses and provide food and lodging.. I've already registered and everything. Okay, here is what the acceptance letter says.

Dear Kim:

You're in!

I am delighted to inform you that you have been admitted to the Bowdoin College Class of 2013. Having carefully reviewed your application, your record of achievement, and the excellent recommendations submitted on your behalf, we are convinced that you have the intellectual curiosity, enthusiasm for learning, and strength of character we seek in Bowdoin's future scholars.

(Next paragraph just goes on and on.. ^^)

We are still involved in the process of selecting more candidates who will be invited to join in the next entering class. It is our hope that this early notification will provide you with additional time to consider Bowdoin, and to plan for participation in a number of special events scheduled for the month of April. These programs are designed to give admitted students a chance to visit our campus, and to begin exploring the many opportunities that await members of the Class of 2013.

My warmest congratulations once again on your admission to Bowdoin College. I look forward to welcoming you to Brunswick!

Sincerely yours.

(AND, THIS IS MY FAVORITE PART handwritten by the dean of admission!!)

Kim - You've done a fantastic job at school through some difficult circumstances and transitions. I hope you will bring your talent and determination to Bowdoin.

Congratulations to everybody who got in!!
And GOOD LUCK to all of the RD applicants. You will hear the good news soon!

I called the Admissions office today and was told the Admitted Student Days are April 17, 20 and 24. The program starts each of those days at 8 AM.

Do international students tend to receive early writes from Bowdoin or no? I'm not quite sure how the whole early write system goes, but I am just curious to know if anyone who lives outside the US has received one or if anyone knows whether this is something that Bowdoin does.

Does anyone know when domestic regular decision applicants receive decisions? It seems like if other people are getting theirs, ours must come out soon right?

iam international too and havent received anything at all from any schools.. except for my safety schools.. doomed.. getting rejected everywhere

All that means is that you did not hear from Early Write. My understanding is that the majority of the acceptances will be going out for that later date.

I just received my early write letter in the mail today! VERY VERY nice financial aid! Seriously, Bowdoin just bumped a few schools further down the list :) Oh, and the BEST part was the very personal handwritten note at the bottom! It makes me feel like the admissions people actually did read my essays! Congratulations to everyone who's gotten in so far and good luck to those still waiting! (Oh, and Smoda: An extra special congrats goes out to you and your daughter: Thanks for all your help and encouragement throughout this long application process. Hope to see you two on campus if we both decide to attend; my mom is really liking the financial aid award, so there is definitely a possibility!)

ambitiousmind07: you are like the first person I've seen who is happy with Bowdoin's fin.aid this year. That's great. Mine hasn't arrived yet though.. still waiting.. Were you invited to the Bowdoin Experience 2009?

Laceyk: No, I didn't see any papers in my envelope talking about Bowdoin Experience 2009. I've never visited the campus before and would like to, so maybe it may come later? But, the acceptance letter did mention something along the lines of "we hope that by letting you know early, you will have ample time to make any travel arrangements to the campus." (I seriously paraphrased that, but that's what they basically said.) About the financial aid award, I was pretty nervous because nearly everyone on this thread has complained about the money, but Bowdoin definitely treated me very well with aid! I'm so happy! I wish you luck with your aid award; I'm sure it'll be great!

Hey AmbitiousMind, Been meaning to PM you. I know that I saw recently that you got a number of early writes - I think I saw Swarthmore maybe and somewhere else. Congratulations! It looks like things are going well. :) We'll have to keep in touch if you end up visiting. I am sure that we will be going back for another visit, the question is which day. I would expect it will be one of the last two dates so as to not miss school but those other two days have complications also. It would be fun to put a face to our conversations. Congrats again!

i didnt get my mail yet but apparently i have been accepted-
i got an email today about a reminder to RSVP for the Bowdoin Experience
...i was like oh?

anyways i was just wondering, is the paid program 16-19 and are there other student visit days on the 17th, 20th, and 24th? (i read that in a post)
im really conflicted because Wes fest is also those days and so dont think i can go 16-19. maybe i can go on the 24th, hopefully paid too, because i really cant afford it right now.

please post back! i really want to go visit and the deadline is next mon...i dont know what i can do.

ambitiousmind07: Oh, if you did not get the Bowdoin Experience 2009, you were not invited. Don't worry though. It is mainly for low-income minority students to consider Bowdoin. The office of admissions has been trying so hard to make the student body more diverse and obviously it is working. From what I've read from bowdoin's website, they invited about 65 people last year to Bowdoin Experience 2008 and more than half of them ended up enrolling.

z09: I am pretty sure only 16-19 is paid. They sent out the invitation only to certain people and the number was limited to about 65 (according to the last year's data.) I really wanted to go to the wes fest as well, but I cannot really afford it so I just chose bowdoin :)

Wow! Bowdoin Experience is for low-income minorities!?! I am so shocked =O! They really must want us. I've been on 3 flyouts before for minority or first-generation students, but most of them come from a lot of money already. I am really quite touched. In fact, Bowdoin is slowly looking more appealing. It's still tied with another college in terms of how badly I want to go there though. :D

Many people tend to avoid Bowdoin because of lack of diversity and the administrations know it well. It is getting better slowly but steadily. Actually I heard the students are very nice and no discrimination present at all. Maine is just known for its dense caucasian population, especially the rural parts. But I would love to go to Bowdoin if they give me generous aid like Wesleyan did.
