Engineering letter recipients do not get your hopes up

don't worry guys, nothing we can do now, hope for the best

ya, i figured that i could always switch majors when i got there, probably will switch to physics from engineering, although with impacted majors you still need to apply for that major when you switch (although if ucla does it differently let me know)

solace2718, wuts ur opinion on this?

Congratulations on admission to the UCLA School of Engineering!

An Open House for all newly admitted students will be held
on campus on Sunday, April 15 which we hope you can attend.
If you have not already done so, please RSVP for this event at

You will also find information at this web page about the campus,
financial aide, etc.

Looking forward to seeing you on April 15.

Best wishes,
R. Muntz
Vice-Chair for Undergraduate Studies
CS Dept.
UCLA

it actually said the word "congratulations"... um... so what do you think now?

well, we could do something, only if we had a Dr. Evil like lair and a nuclear weapon (and properly plugged in as per Stephen Colbert's adage)... [raises pinky to corner of mouth]

ok so what we know is the initial snail mail letter was an open house letter

this recent e-mail is supposed to be admissions?

The letter we got in the mail clearly shows that we got accepted.
It says, "In the near future, more information about your acceptance will be contained in a formal letter from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Relations with Schools (UARS)." I don't think they would put this in the letter if we haven't been accepted yet...

well then what is this?

a good amount of people in this forum lacks reading comprehension

Congratulation on your acceptance, hopefully its for real

well, at least for Shadowdrgn20 it seems fairly clear

i believe dimedropper that the UCLA electrical engineering e-mail is more of an acceptance than the letter we received in the mail. This is because of the first line "We welcome you to the UCLA Electrical Engineering department." I believe that means we're accepted. Also, others in the other engineering departments got a "congratulations on your acceptance"

Adding to what SonicBoom said, the email even says, "We encourage you to seriously consider joining our department." To me, it implies that you have already been accepted and that they are strongly inviting you to join the school.

If you followed the previous threads, the engineering letter doesn't not 100% guarantee admission. From previous years, it meant 95%+.

Now that there are more applicants, I figure this percentage to be slightly less.

I wonder if they purposely leave the ambiguity to torture prospective students such as ourselves :)

er Boelter are the other 5% because they werent good enough or something happened? But why would they want you to RSVP for the department open house if they were going to reject you?

yeah seriously that is so mean aha. travel all the way there for nothing

also boelter, just to clarify, im talking about the new e-mails that came out, not the letters that were sent out about a month ago. The new e-mails seem to be acceptances and also a reminder about open house.

solace, first of all, i called the ucla admission and they said it was a open house and that's all, i then called eng admission office and they said taht it was just an recommendation, then i called the number listed on the letter and the person in charge of the open house said taht if you got the letter, than the chacne of you getting an admission package is 99.999999. And i am not kidding, she really said all those nines

I love it when gpine does research so I don't have to. I'd still feel a lot better if we got an email though =/

good for yall , congrats Engineers
