Fall 2013 Early Action

Hey Everyone,

I’m tracking a separate package from FedEx and they have a warning label indicating delays in major metropolitan areas. This is what it says:

FedEx is closely monitoring the Boston explosions and increased security measures. Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our team members, as well as providing the highest level of service to our customers. Although contingency plans are in place, some service delays and disruptions can be anticipated in multiple large metropolitan areas. FedEx is committed to providing service to the best of our ability in areas that can be safely accessed. Please continue to check fedex.com for updates.

not for next day overnight, unless they want to lose their major clients

Columbia usually utilizes DHL, not FedEx.

@CarpeDiemAlways

Last year all GS acceptances were mailed via Fedex according to the corresponding thread.

Sorry about that. For CC they use DHL, I just assumed it was the same. Good Luck!

No problem, and thanks! :)

There is obviously a lot of hurt from the Boston bombings and I won’t go into that… I only posted the FedEx message to somehow put out there that it might not be Columbia itself, but FedEx that MIGHT delay any good news in the coming days/week…

@fy2140 you are right in that they won’t want to lose any good customers, but this is a security issue and I am sure Columbia would gladly comply with them to ensure everyone’s safety over overnight mail

Heads up everyone! I’ve just been contacted by GS for an admissions phone interview. Will keep you all posted. Wish me luck!!

Congrats! hismatix

i thought they don’t do interviews though… when is your interview?

@hismatix, good luck!! Tell us how it goes!

Thanks! The interview went very well I think. It was with an admissions manager, and while very professional it was also informal, which made me feel at ease. The questions he asked were nothing out of this world, mostly to get to know me, and to touch some key points on my application.

Before the interview I noticed a missed call from a blocked number, and then I received the e-mail asking for the interview with some day/time options for to call. A few minutes later the interview happened. All within the last 2 hours.

Hopefully we get to see some more of these, it only means everything is moving forward! The admissions manager also mentioned I should be hearing back with a decision in the next couple of weeks.

Awesome hismatix! Sounds like your interview did go well!

I was told by an admissions manager that my app is under review by the committee. I am guessing it’s the last stage of their review (at least if their process is similar to the one described in the MIT article shared earlier). I know I’m overthinking it. What do you guys think?

i think not every case needs an interview, but if it does, it should be the last stage.

Congrats hismatix! Do you mind sharing your stats?!

I think an interview means your in unless you completely blow the interview, sounds like your in!

an interview doesn’t mean he or she is in, but judging by the questions asked, it tilts heavily towards “in”. so congrats again hismatix!

hello fellow applicants, i too am awaiting the decision. i feel like lebron james.

Finally got all parts of the application in. I wasn’t even going to try this semester, but the director of admissions came down for an information session and said if we got Part I in by the deadline the rest of the application could come in by the end of April. I made the “cut off” of April 19th, taking the GSAE this last Saturday. They e-mailed me to make sure I resent my GED just two days ago, which I took as a good sign. If I definitely wasn’t in already… why bother, right? Then again, maybe they didn’t start to look everything over because it was incomplete.

Hopefully I’ll hear something in the next two weeks. Best of luck to every one else.

new information:
i was told today that they inform applicants one by one once an individual’s case has been reviewed, not in a bunch. so that explains why someone has already got the admission letter. but on the other hand, most of us applied early action, application completed around March 1st, give or take a week, the time we receive decisions shouldn’t be that different, i guess. one more thing, the latest time has been postponed to May 15th instead of May 1st, so i’ve been told.

Has anyone else had trouble getting someone from the office on the phone? I’m trying to verify a LOR that I wasn’t able to submit electronically made it in and I keep getting a voicemail that’s full…
