bonne chance!

Misteruee, are you Canadian?!

Like several of you I had a missing transcript and thought that my app would be held up indefinitely. Well, I got my acceptance on Friday, before they received the transcript with a request in the packet to send it asap. So in case anyone is wondering, they ARE reviewing incomplete applications and making decisions without all info.
Good luck everyone! You should hear soon!

Natdcny- I was on campus on the 13th to take the GSAE with about 5 or 6 other people. I would say maybe one or two other individuals had done any serious research on GS and taken the time to prepare a competitive application (by that I mean everything outside of their GPA).

They told me as long as everything was in my file by the 19th that I would still be considered for Early Action. I think they’re extremely flexible and accommodating in that office. Georgetown wasn’t nearly so understanding or responsive to my phone calls and e-mails, but I think that speaks to the reputation of both schools. If I don’t get accepted, I’m pretty sure it will be an issue with my major and the level of math I’ve taken. I’m only on precalc and I wrote about wanting to study economics. On the other hand, I’ve taken several humanities courses and done pretty well across the board. If I was majoring in History or International Relations I probably wouldn’t be so much of a gamble, but what’s done is done. Hoping for the best.

Did you take the GSAE or submit SAT scores?

Edit: Also, I was on campus on a Saturday so I didn’t have the benefit of meeting with other veterans or GS students, but I did witness a pretty lively campus event with a DJ that looked like a lot of fun. I was surprised, I had heard Columbia kids were more of the book worm variety. Not bad.

@natdcny, no, an american who’s a foreign film enthusiast.

I was wondering if anyone on the thread took the exam on campus on Feb. 27th that’s why I asked.

Oh ok misteruee, it’s a French term often used in Canada, just curious!

I took the exam in the 27th and there was a group of about 10 people, they all appeared very different in terms of their backgrounds.

@natdcny, i took the exam on the 27th.

i have the feeling that they send offers mainly on Thursday or Friday. the early week should be quiet.

Hi, guys. I wish everybody will get admitted to Columbia GS Fall 2013!

I applied to Columbia GS as a regular decision transfer student, so I have to wait until the

end of May( Honestly, I am not sure even if I applied on April 2nd).

I am curious that people who are admitted to Columbia GS usually received early

notification before Columbia GS sent the acceptance package.

For example, I wait for 6 weeks after completing my application, Columbia GS does not

notify me. Does this mean I get rejected?

Sorry for asking such a silly question, but I am really nervous these days!

Thanks

Congrats liznyc! I was wondering if you might sharing your stats (that goes for everyone else who gets accepted to)? Please? Thanks

I wouldn’t assume anything until you hear back. And no, I didn’t receive any prior notifications before receiving the acceptance package.
My stats
4.0 (3 semesters)
VP Honors Club
Co-chair campus safety and security committee
Campus Tour guide

Mother of one
Essay had good content but I did make some typos
3 great letters of recommendation

@ misteruee, which one were you? I was the loud mouth blonde, white sweater, nervous wreck. Lol

@natdcny, i was two chairs to your left. corduroy blazer.

Thanks hglmel!
I’m a home schooled (no high school grades, no SAT), then community college transfer.
4.0 since returning to school part-time 2 years ago.
Grades weren’t great when I took classes 10 years ago(I even had a 0.0 for an improperly dropped class), but they seem to only care about recent work.
I’m in PTK.
I’m on the board of a non-profit.
I’ve had some really crazy life experiences that I included in my essay.
I had superb letters of recommendation.
I took the GS entrance exam which seemed fairly easy, so I must have done well.
Good luck!

Thanks for quick reply.
When I looked at other applicants’ GPA, they usually had 4.0 GPA.
It seems to me that if applicants whose GPA is lower than 4.0, does that mean there seems to have much lower possibility to get admitted. Feel free to tell me if there is something wrong.

Yup, current student. I entered fall 2011, graduating May 2015. I’ll be an orientation leader, and might be at your APS, so say hi!

The pool you see on College Confidential is much more serious than the general applicant pool.

Motame: plenty of economics majors come in with no calculus. I’d even say it’s typical. A fair number even take precalc here. Don’t worry about that.

Motame, the event a previous Saturday was Bacchanal. It’s a great event, but it is the party of the year. While Columbians do reach that sometimes, don’t expect it regularly. This year featured Macklemore. Past performers include Snoop Dogg, Vampire Weekend, Destiny’s Child, Kanye West, Outkast, They Might Be Giants, Ben Folds Five.

Regarding 4.0 GPAs, sure, it helps. But GS is GS because they don’t just blindly follow numbers like that. They care about your story. A 4.0 taking one motorcycle maintenance class per semester isn’t very impressive, while a 3.6 taking 21 credits of difficult classes with a kid and a full time job is remarkable. GS understands and cares.

That said, yes, a higher GPA does make it more likely you’ll be accepted.

Thanks for the insider info, campaigner!

I must say, though, I am starting to panic a little bit. I started getting anxious about the to-be-mailed decision a couple of weeks ago, and now I’m just tired of waiting every day. I really hope we find out soon, sometime this week, because at this point I just really want to know the decision, whether it’s a yes or a no…

Now i’m expecting to be rejected…everyone has had a 4.0 since going back to school. I’ve had A/B average at the most, last semester I did horrible (2.9), and i’m not too confident about this semester anymore…sighs I just want the torture to be over…

That’s what I am feeling now…

Hi everyone, I have been lurking in the board for a few days and am a fellow fall 2013 early action applicant. Still one week from taking the GSAE out here in LA though. That will be interesting since I have a math test on the other side of town immediately after the assessment exam ends.

Anyway, like many of you, I can barely stand waiting to learn if I will be accepted. I have my fingers figuratively crossed and wish those of you still waiting good luck as well.
