@kamiture did you get accepted?!
I’m so done with housing right now. probably wont be notified about our CAR’s till we are notified about our roommates smh
Uhm, I am pretty sure that housing is notifying people on their CAR’s. I have plenty of friends that are incoming transfers who got notified on open spots in four different apartments last week and they all took a spot. The open apartments were: Landfair, Gayley Towers, Gayley Court and Morgan.
If you didn’t get a call about the open apartments, you should call immediately and see what’s up.
EDIT: Then again, it won’t do you any good because they all had to make a decision on their CAR by this past Friday at 4PM, so that deadline has passed.
I do not know how housing really works, I work with the New Student and Transition Programs, so I would give Housing a call.
@kakarikos Yes, I did.
Update: UCLA Housing’s Twitter says that we will hear back about our housing assignments by August 31, because they received a lot more requests for housing this year.
@wonder77 housing assignments have been released on the last Thursday of August the past two years, so hopefully they’re released tomorrow, the 25th, or even Friday, the 26th. It’s too bad we’re only given 3 weeks to prepare for our move. Some people need to book flights, hotels, etc. and it’s much more cheaper and efficient to book them earlier. 3 weeks is just cutting it super close for a lot of people.
@csmajortom yep, I have to wait to book my flight until I know what my assigned move-in day is, and my dad needs to take time off work. Hopefully they don’t make us wait too much longer!
You will be able to change your move in day. Also if you miss your day/time, they won’t penalize you in any way. The general window to move in, is usually about 5-7 days before the first day of instruction which this Fall is 9/22. It is OK to move in a day or two before that first day. So now you can figure out your flights.
I have a question about financial aid that I’m hoping somebody can answer. I’m out of town right now and I’ve tried calling the office about 100 times and it keeps disconnecting me and I’m about to go crazy. (If I cannot connect via phone to Financial Aid soon, I will visit the office upon my return).
I was not expecting to qualify for any scholarship/aid this year (outside of a loan) and not surprisingly, I was right. I am going to take the Federal Ubsubsidized Loan.
The loan does not fully cover my tuition costs - I will owe roughly $500 extra per quarter, not including books and materials.
My question is this: I know that the loan is disbursed equally over the next three quarters but do I need to pay ALL of the difference now, out of pocket? Or do any of you know if I can pay the difference at the beginning of each quarter via BruinBill?
I hope my question made sense…
Has anyone started/completed the mandatory AlcoholEdu course yet? When I went to the website and registered for it, the only course it enrolled me in is a financial wellness course. There’s nothing about alcohol in sight. Anyone know what’s up with that?
@foreverwmt I did both the AlcoholEdu and the financial wellness course. They were separate websites. They should have sent you multiple emails with the link to it. I believe it’s called “Think About It”, search your inbox for “Mandatory Health Education”.
This year, there is no AlcoholEdu course.
As csmajortom mentioned, it is just the following courses:
- financial wellness (email subject is “Online Education Requirement for all new students”) which uses the everfi website
- “Think About It”/ “Mandatory Health Education” (email subject is “Mandatory Education Program” ) which uses the campusclarity website. This course basically educates about substance abuse and other things so people can be safe at school
@wonder77 my mistake, I thought Think About It and AlcoholEdu were the same thing.
WOW, preliminary figures for 2016 transfers!
https://www.admission.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof16.htm
@csmajortom I think AlcoholEdu and the “think about it” course basically cover the same (or very similar) topics (I’m guessing that’s why this year they didn’t require new students to do both). The “Think About It” course probably covers more topics.
Also. the preliminary figures for 2016 transfers are very interesting!
@wonder77 Ok, makes sense. I completed “Think About It” but I also read online that there was a different requirement called AlcoholEdu, and from this website – http://www.alcoholedu.ucla.edu/Overview – UCLA only set me up to complete the Financial Wellness course which is why I was confused. Thanks guys!
Is the financial wellness course mandatory for all students? I never received an email about it but I have gotten tons about the think about it course.
@1teenwolf I got the financial wellness email in my spam folder, so yours might have landed in there to. It is indeed mandatory
@xenoplanet Thank you so much!! I found it in the spam folder
@Edirol i believe it’s whatever is leftover on your bruinbill account after you apply your loans to your tuition and fees that you’ll have to cover. My loans won’t ever everything either, I’m about 800 dollars short total this year. So I’m assuming the 800 dollars will be divided up amongst each quarter, because the yearly tuition and housing (for me) is too.
