for highschool seniors who applied for 2011 fall admissions

carmondd - My son’s applicaton just moved to Step 3 this morning. Under Second Reader, it now says:

The admission counselor for your territory has completed his/her review. Your application is now in the hands of one of our senior second readers.

I’ve been accepted as an athletic recruit RD, so if there any athletes in the pool, you should be hearing back soon.

Best of luck to all of you! I’m sure you’ll all be fine.

“Second Reader
The admission counselor for your territory has completed his/her review. Your application is now in the hands of one of our senior second readers.”

I’m so nervous. D:

I’ve been away for a week - in sunny Florida! Just to confirm some recent posts.

Yes, we do make decisions without the mid-year report, but we will need to see a mid-year report at some point. Usually the mid-year report is used to confirm our initial decision or, in rare circumstances, raise a red flag about a student that we felt was otherwise admissible.

The speed at which your application is read has no bearing on your decision. We sometimes have to read certain applications earlier than others b/c one student may be applying for a combined admissions program or some other type of program.

Rschoeplein… It is not necessary to give your application reviewer a call. We provide that information so that you can contact the correct individual if need be. At times a student will have a question about a missing document, will need to make a correction, or provide us with an update. We felt that having that contact information readily available might make some students more comfortable contacting us with questions when they arise.

Good to be back - happy to answer any questions any of you have!

Do you guys still want Family Recs or is it too late for that? Was unaware of the opportunity til a couple days ago.

We will still accept family letters of recommendation, though we are currently in the midst of application review. I recommend that you send whatever it is you would like to be included in your file as soon as possible.

Also, just clear up some misinformation - with the exception of a select few students that have been chosen as finalists for a very competitive combined admission program, no students have been notified of official admission to the University of Rochester as of yet. Because the process of shaping a freshman class requires a lot of tweaking after initial decisions have been made, we have to reserve the right to change an admissions decision until we send an official letter. So, unless a student has recieved an official letter of admission, he/she has not been admitted.

I hope that this makes sense, and I am, as always, more than happy to answer questions.

MConklin - thanks for the reply. I think it’s great that you are on here to help us all along.
Regards.

S is on step 4.
Does Rochester have athletic recruiting. My understanding was they did not because of their Division Three status.

Rochester (and all D3 schools) can recruit, but can’t offer athletic scholarships.

Mine’s in the 1st reader’s hands…

When do they release decisions?

All decisions will be MAILED to applicants and will arrive no later than April 1.

A very few students (those who are applying to combined degree programs and those who will be interviewed for the Renaissance Scholarships) will hear earlier.

In the past acceptances have been mailed out in several waves, some of which began to arrive in mid to late March.

also, did anyone here get an email from rochester askin you to fill out a survey so that you can see some of the potential scholarships that you could recieve upon acceptance?

Yes, my D got that email, it was helpful to know all the scholarships that are available!

Hi MCkonklin, I am an applicant from China. I received the email containing my login link around 3rd, Jan. When I logged in, I realized that an interview is “highly recommended”. But it’s too late because the interview request has been closed before I even got the email. I tried to email the admission office but I haven’t heard back. I completely understand that it will take a while but I am thinking if I should give them a call ( a call is more direct than emails I guess…) to request an interview. My application is viewed by the first viewer right now, is it too late? What’s the best I can do for now? —Thank you very much

Mine says it’s in committee review. I called them and they said it will stay in that until they mail decisions out…so everyone be prepared wait.

Grachlt… Calling is always the best way to get through to someone. Our priority is to respond to e-mails in a timely matter, so if you have no heard, I think it is best to follow up with a phone call.

That being said, it is getting late to interview. Though we may not at this point be able to accomodate another interview, I think it is worth requesting an interview.

I just want to mention that U of Rochester’s application status web site is the best one out of all the other colleges that my S applied.

my app is still on step 3 and its been like that for like ovr 2 weeks, should i be worried…

carmondd… nope. There are just a lot of applications that go through committee!

I second keylimepie’s comment. I really like the transparency of the application status website.
Regarding what margolma says, does it mean that even if my status says I am in committee review, a decision could have been made already?
