Are there any students who know for sure they're doing FSSP or who are strongly considering it?

I am. Being stuck in san nic all year almost turned me off but I decided going to the beach six weeks early was worth it

don’t worry razor powell, they changed the rule
you won’t have to stay in san nic all year!

My S is definitely doing FSSP. He and I both researched it and couldn’t find anything bad about the program and lots and lots of good. The chance to get settled in early before the crowds arrive is very appealing. Compared to the summer camps we used to send him to, the cost is actually about the same…and he gets college credit! He might use the credits along with his APs to graduate early or just take fewer classes the first year and have an easier time, it is up to him.

true that world world, i already have lots of ap credits so if i end up doing fssp i should be well on my way to graduate on time (or early)

Is the FSSP intended just for first generation students? At Davis they have something similar, but it seems to be only for specific groups, not any admitted freshman.

Nope! At SB fssp is for anyone who’s willing to give up $5000 dollars and 6 weeks of summer break

I just sent in my application for fssp!
i am doing it mostly because if i didn’t I’d be stuck at home for a month doing nothing and thinking about leaving and getting sad about it.

But I’m excited because now I’m doing something during the summer:)

How many units are you guys taking during the FSSP?

About 9 units. If there was a language class with 4 units I might take that too…

Sent from my HTCFlyerP512_NA

yea they have language classes available
and i’m taking 9 units too

Is there a link to the classes offered?

Yea click on this
[UCSB Freshman Summer Start Forms](http://www.summer.ucsb.edu/FSSP/fsspforms.html)
then click on schedule of classes

Thanks! I didn’t see that before. I’m taking 3 AP tests next month. If I pass there are a few classes that I won’t be able to take or won’t need to take. I guess if I sign up for something then don’t need it I should be able to drop it or switch to something else.

So would doing FSSP be saving time or money in the long run? I really want to do it but $5000 is a lot of money, and I’m trying to convince my dad.

Crap, I should have viewed the classes before faxing in the form Friday. I’m not sure what to take. I’m pre-med. I might at least knock out some GE but idk… I’m not incredibly`interested in some of the course choices either. shrugs

Doesn’t it seem like a gigantic pain in the ass to got to college in summer?
Also you will study for 6 weeks after which you have another quarter to kill. Anyone feel the slight overload factor?

it depends on how many classes you take nickygurl. With my AP credit and the classes I’m taking this summer, I’ll be able to finish my general ed by the end of first semester which means I’ll probably be able to graduate a little early (fingers crossed)
But yea I think the program will be really worth it
I’ve heard nothing but great reviews!
and yes Andrey B I’ve def considered that But a lot of students end up taking summer courses sometime or another @ SB so I’m hoping doing them now will spare me later

Thanks apples! I was planning on taking 9 units, so if I did that along with my AP credit I’m hoping to graduate earlier too :)

I agree, it makes perfect sense. I guess it all depends when your summer holidays start. Mine start in early July so now wonder I’m not even considering it :)
