general scholarships are being sent

wow the UNC systems schools are all signifigantly cheaper to attend than USC-C
that surprises me somehow
I guess I expected them to comparable(sp)........

cost of housing and food plan will vary depending on what you pick. While a food plan is mandatory in freshman housing, it can be as low as 10 meals a week, which is what S had last year, with extra $$ on his school "debit type" card (Carolina Card).Books are given as an estimate.S's book costs have varied each semester, especially since he's learned to buy off campus, buy from students who have finished the class, learned that you dont have to pre-buy every book, etc.
The term "tuition" means a cost for tuition only, not room and board. the term "cost of attendance" will give you the breakdown of figures for all categories.
Don't forget to factor in the actual cost of attendance at your in state school as well, not only tuition.USC actually has some reasonable housing rates compared to other colleges.

jbrown - if you are in-state at UNC-C - then yes definitely.
What is sad is the tuition offer at USC being lower than in-state at my state's flagship univeristy.

Alas, the deal is still probably not good enough for us though.

jbrown - if your daughter has the McKissick it would be more like:
$3973/semester tuition less 1/2 of $2000 scholarship = $2973 semester
($5946 yr)
Room and board should be comparable to UNC-CH
The freshman dorms are the less expensive ones so it would be on the low end. If she chooses to she can stay in the less expensive dorms in later years as well - the more expensive ones generally are more like an apartment.

pa mom
ok yes thats helpful

my figures then put it more like 13K a year (tuition, room /board)
which feels more in line with UNC

and with other private schools fianacial aid packages

thanks

Yes, that's about right. With the meal plan my daughter used (16+) and Capstone dorm it would be $12326.
For us it was much cheaper than Penn State!

Room and board at USC is comparable to UNC-CH and in both cases a deal when compared to many schools in the NE and ALL schools in California.....

Also departmental scholarships in most cases are held in reserve until AFTER you accept admission; they want to give them to people who really want to be there and not use them as an added carrot.

My D found out about her $6000 departmental scholarship while at commencement practice in May....long after she had accepted admission.

Hi PA Mom....hope all is well with you and yours....

is capstone and additional scholarship or just admission to an honors type program?

For those who received the McKissick, what were your GPA and SAT/ACT scores? Thanks.

Capstone has money associated with it, just like Honors.

Does USC operate on a rolling basis in regards to financial aid notification?

When will notification go out about merit based scholarships for University South Carolina. My son got his acceptance letter yesterday. He qualifies for the Woodrow Scholarship.

When will notification for Scholarships be sent? My son received his acceptance letter yesterday.

When did your son apply, I thought the next round of acceptances were going out mid-March?? (which is when I heard the merit scholarships would be too.)

That's weird, I thought the next round was going out mid March as well but my friend just got his acceptance letter last week...

got my acceptance yesterday. I assume they send out scholarships a month or so from now? (that's how Auburn did it)

I don't know, it's kinda unusual for them to send out acceptances a month early... who knows when scholarships will go out

Is there someone from admissions that reviews this site that can clarify the sequence of how acceptances/scholarships are being sent out. I too thought that the next wave of letters would be on March 16th.

I got my acceptence about 2-3 weeks ago and got my scholorship info today.

Got my acceptance in December and scholarship info today. The blog says that scholarship offers were sent yesterday. It didn't have far to go.
