Georgetown 2023 Applicants Discussion

For those of you that are trying to figure out how long letters take to get to the New England area…

Both of my kids applied EA to Georgetown (one 2-years ago, one right now). Both were deferred. Kid #1 was accepted in the RD round and is currently in the SFS. Kid #2 is waiting for the decision right now.

So far, that means we’ve waited for the Georgetown mail 3 times (Both EA decisions, and one RD decision). Each time we received the letter in New England after about 2-3 days (mailed on Friday, received on Monday).

Hope that helps the calendar crunchers out there! The waiting doesn’t get easier the fourth time around. Good luck

Someone earlier posted :
“Hey guys. I checked at my job yesterday (we do a lot of postage stuff) and the current postage prices for those weights are 50 cents and 65 cents. Not really sure why USPS adjusted them this way but that is what I would expect. Hope that helps!”

is this true?
if so does .50 = reject/waitlist
and .65 = acceptance?

Hey, that was me. I think the person above made a good point about how Georgetown could use more or less paper this year, so we can’t be sure until someone actually opens a letter. I just know historically (and when I got deferred EA) that 1-2 sheets of paper is what translates now to 50 cents and is usually rejection/waitlist. More paper is usually acceptance which would now be 65 cents. But, like I said, there’s no way to be sure. I just thought I would weigh in (haha) based on what I knew.

@max2737 You’re right. According to US Postal service, a metered regular letter (basically 1-page or so) is $0.50 and each additional ounce is $0.15 more (down from $0.21 more last year), which would make acceptance letters probably about $0.65, unless they way a little more and cost $0.80.

Just a guess, but it’s possible that the mail went out yesterday in two groups. So, some in the DC/MD/VA area might be getting their letters today, while a late delivery to the Post Office yesterday would mean tomorrow. I won’t know until Saturday.

From USPS website: “Metered Mail” rates for First Class Mail Letters (1 oz.), which includes online postage providers and postage meters, will increase three cents to $0.50 from $0.47. Each additional ounce will cost $0.15."

In EA round, acceptances had .68 cent metered stamps (2 sheets of paper) and deferrals had .47 postage metered stamps. If RD round is the same, with 2019 postal rate increase rejections would have .50 metered stamps and acceptances would have .65 stamps.

Maybe someone from MD who received his/hers today can verify?

Just pulled up prior mail that I have opened. And postage for more than 1 page has ranged everywhere from .38 .41 .44 and up…

Has anyone received their decision in the mail?

My friend did. I’m on my way home to check mine. Maryland

I’m about 20 miles from GT. I’ll update if I received the mail!

@jamaica5317 can you let us know your and your friend’s stamp amount and if there was some relationship to the acceptance or rejection or waitlist? I think people are saying .65 means accepted and .50 is waitlist or rejection. Can you let us know if that is the case? Thanks and good luck to you!

Long Island, NY - Deferred at EA - RD not in the mail today.

Has anybody recieved a letter from GU yet?

My friend just got a denial with a .41 cent stamp in Maryland

If this is correct, then maybe good news for .50 receives. .41=rejection, .50= acceptance?

I received my letter and I was accepted!! I’m 5 miles away from dc and the stamp was .50 btw
