Learn how to write a sentence the correct way. If you got a 4.0 gpa, the school you’re at needs to be inspected by government officials. @mb-side I would take the vet @Robinyoursoul with a great work ethic and a strong application rather than take someone like you that can’t even write a sentence.
yeah, it is definitely not that simple @mb-side . there’s an academic standard that you are expected to meet with schools as elite as GU, but i’d argue that someone w/ a 3.7 and @Robinyoursoul 's background (being in the military for 5 years) would totally surpass a 4.0 student with pretty average extra curriculars in the applicant pool, (assuming that the initial person presented himself well in the essay component).
it’s not as algorithmic as you make it out to be. a good part of it is having an intriguing profile --> given that these persons reading the apps are ya know, humans, who want that idiosyncratic individual + his experiences to augment the school community. (again, assuming that person meets basic academic standards)
Just jumping in with the perspective of somebody who goes to GU. I didn’t have a 4.0 in high school. That’s not to say I had terrible grades, I actually had pretty great grades but what was more important was that I had a unique background and activities that gave me a perspective that few others would have. That, combined with good essays and great recs helped lead to my admission. GU is actually one of the more holistic schools out there. There are plenty of people here who didn’t have 4.0s but had other things that made them a valuable addition to this community. College is about so much more than pure academic prowess and people can contribute to the classroom in many different ways. Of course grades matter; GU is a well respected academic institution that wants intelligent people. But they’re definitely not the whole picture.
When it comes down to applicants being selected to prestigious universities such as GU, grades are not the only matter that they consider (my perspective). Though, most people do know that GU is prestigious and they apply anyway. The reason why? Because they believe they’re GU material in regards to academic standards. But if you look at the numbers, Georgetown University has an acceptance rate of 16.4% for all admissions; it’s much lower for transfers if you only consider such applicants. With that being said, I would imagine a number of applicants who have “GU grades” being denied. Schools of this nature don’t just consider your grades, they consider how much value you can bring to the table. Such a consideration cannot be quantified by academic performance in most cases.
Guys i am only giving my perspective and i wish you all the best.
@IvyLeague2. First English is not my first language, so it is normal to make a spelling mistake if the native speakers themselves are making it. Second, did your parents teach you how to respect others? I don"t think so. Learn how to be respectful first then seek further education
Yeah guys read this guys previous posts and now he types perfect sentences. Wow, not fishy at all buddy. Good luck in the admissions process
I got in already no need to say good luck
hey guys, I got an email saying its unlikely ill be offered a spot…I got an early review
Dang… Sorry @financeguyjames… Also, an e-mail on a Sunday from a Jesuit institution? Kinda odd.
Stats please
Why do you even care @mb-side? You already got in anyway.
Can you guys maybe tone it down? Who cares if English is his first or third language and who cares if he asks unnecessarily about someone’s stats? He’s not the only one curious about it. Have a great Sunday.
Anyone else studying for finals next week? Should be a solid week of exams and hopefully a decision or some information from Georgetown. The summer program I’m attending at GU is just a month away; it will be bitter sweet if I’m denied/waitlisted and also spending a week on campus at GU lol
&Robinyoursoul, bro i apologize to you about my comments. I did not mean to discourage you. But i do not want you as myself too to have a hope and get frustrated. All in all, i wish you the best and see you in GU campus not just for summer program, but as a transfer student
@mb-side No worries, I’m not so easily “triggered” or discouraged these days.
Those who were admitted to the college for government - did you request an expedited review of your application?
Anyone admitted for business yet?
To go to back to the previous conversation, I believe GU is one of those schools that takes a look at students as a whole and not just GPA. Not to say GPA isn’t a major factor, but EC’s essays and recs hold a lot of weight. I would at least hope this is true, I know my application package is pretty competitive, the only thing that scares me is my 3.7 GPA. Usually the average is a 3.8 for GU, and my high school GPA was not great either. Let’s see what happens anyways, still waiting on my decision for the SFS. Btw, has anyone heard of anyone getting into SFS?
Also, how does one go about requesting an early review and what are valid enough to request one? Does asking for an early review hurt your chances at attending?
