How did u judge that a meager chance of getting in and based on what rather than my GPA?
I also did two recommendations (professor and a former military superior who was my RSO while working at the U.S Embassy in Tunis); however, I almost wish I had done one more. Should I try and get another one submitted or just crawl into the bed I’ve made hahaha?
Yes, as long as you have a time and your applicantion has not been under review yet, you should do whatever it takes to get in whether by adding a recommendation of a volunteer activities. That is if you really want to go there and impress the admission committe
I wsh the admission councilor who said i have a less than ,01 percent tof getting in to tell me how he figured it out hahaha
I am concern that i will get in and he well be waitlisted until August and ultimately rejected. Hahaha
I still didn’t get a follow-up e-mail after the application confirmation was sent. No word about an interview or any potential missing documents whatsoever. I tried to contact admissions multiple times but I didn’t hear back from them. I guess calling will be the next step…
Calling is the most effective step @MysteriousDude. It gives immediate support and gets your problems solved. Do that and you’ll be fine.
Does anyone know if being waitlisted when applying as a first year student helps your chances significantly of getting in as a transfer student? Also, has anyone done their alumni interview yet?
I don’t think you can really come here for answers on a lot of the questions I’m seeing posted. You are asking other applicants to chance you when they are themselves are applicants not addmisions officers. Paint the best picture of your self, go the extra mile to be a member of the community, and work hard. Stressing out over who did what compared to your self is ridiculous and will not get you anyplace in life. If you happen to make the cut, hell yeah treat the opportunity like a stepping stone for what’s after graduation. if not, what ever keeping progressing forward and stop judging your self based off other people who live in a different reality then you.
@JGLASS18 not sure about your first question, but I had my alumni interview at the beginning of March.
@Robinyoursoul What did you do in the Marines? I was Army Infantry
@Mycatsnameispups dude, so good to see another infantry bubba here
Here’s a little rundown about my time in:
-My first enlistment I was an assault man (0351)
-Deployed to Trek-Nawa, Afghanistan in 2011
-Came home and jumped ship to embassy duty
-Served at the embassy in Kosovo and Tunisia
-Between those two embassy posts I got sent back to the states to start up the MSAU unit (you can see me in the June-2014 State Department magazine lol)
-Did a few VIP’s out of country with MSAU.
How did the army treat you, man? It’s always great to see other veterans in the running for transferring to Georgetown.
I was with 101st Airborne for 3 years, deployed to kunar Afghanistan for OEF 12/13.
My second enlistment I Went to 2nd infantry over in Washington State. I was with a Scout Snipper section tell I ETSed last year.
Nice, I don’t hear about to many Infantry guys doing embassy duty since we usually stay in our little grunt world. I was always jealous of the marines having that option especially since diplomacy and working for the state department is the field I want to eventually get in to after graduation and then Peace Corps.
@Mycatsnameispups that’s awesome man. Glad to hear you made it out there and didn’t end up becoming a peacetime grunt and missing out on OEF lol
The embassy gig was really abrupt. I came home from the deployment and after leave the opportunity was given to me and my unit wasn’t touching another pump for a long time - made the best of it and had a great time. The diplomatic sector is very interesting; especially for us infantry types.
What made you want to apply to Georgetown?
Are you doing the Warrior-Scholar Project this summer at Georgetown?
Yeah in retrospect I should have stayed with the 101 since they still are on a rapid deployment cycle haha. That’s good you jumped at the opportunity and were able to have those experiences especially in former Yugoslavia then over in North Africa. Very Interesting history in both places and being in Tunisia during the Arab spring must have had a good level of stress.
Georgetown is in the epicenter of our democracy, produces the most Peace Corps volunteers, and has a active student body. What I mean by that is; being apart of clubs is cool and all but how many people do you really see actively involved in the community, volunteering with grass roots organization who are making a difference. A big selling point for my self on Georgetown University is the fact student are taking action and not just sitting in a club room talking about how progressive they are. Its easy to talk about social issues but another to make changes at least on the micro level.
I am unfortunately unable to apply for that program since I’m living on the GI bill, LYFT driving, and have rent to pay in wonderfully expensive San Francisco.
Question: was anyone able to submit more than one letter of rec? Not including the dean’s/college report and the HS report
Mail any additional letters to admission.
@Mycatsnameispups Definitely a little envious of that quick deployment cycle. I was with the 1st Bn/9th Mar and it was definitely at the low end of being sent out on pumps. (They were originally disbanded and then reactivated to support OIF when that kicked up).
I’m with you on the active student body that Georgetown has to offer - something that community colleges (especially the one I am attending) is lacking in greatly.
Best of luck getting accepted, man. If we both get in, feel free to reach out if you need anything/help moving being that I live close to Georgetown.
@lexluther96 I had a professor submit another LOR via e-mail to the admissions office. I gave my professor their e-mail and my GUID and she handled the rest; did not do the HS report.
@Robinyoursoul Thanks! What email did you send it to? Do you know if we’re allowed to do that, or did you just do it just in case they’d consider it?
Is there a transfer portal? I can’t remember. Also, how will they notify us about our admission status? Mail or email?
