@Robinyoursoul LOL right. I decided to apply a week before the app was due so I may or may not have been rushing through it…hence the mistake. Lolz oh well. Is Gtown your top? The more I research it, the more I like it
@lexluther96 Yes! Georgetown has been my tip pick for a while now - probably since around 2014. Living so close to the D.C. area, whenever I drive past the Georgetown area I can see the school on the hill and hope for it even more.
@MysteriousDude Also, a few students who have been accepted to Georgetown as freshman or transfers in the last few years have gotten in without a alumni interview - check the recent threads for the last few years. Definitely try and call though!
I saw you in the columbia thread lol whats up @lexluther96. Do you guys think that the alumni interviewee could potentially give me a phone interview if my schedule is jam packed? I also feel like I am intentionally avoiding an in person interview because I might get nervous lol
@IvyLeague2 do the interview! Everyone and their mother will tell you that it is not as nerve wracking as it would seem to be. Plus, you might not be able to convey yourself or how you react as person when doing an interview over the phone.
@IvyLeague2 Yeaaaah you should definitely schedule an in-person interview around your interviewer’s schedule. I have a stupid busy schedule too, but I let my interviewer choose the time and date. Saying you’re too busy for an interview in person is essentially the same as saying that you don’t care enough to make time for Georgetown and for the interviewer, which sends a really bad message.
@Robinyoursoul Ahh I bet! It looks like a castle in pictures! What program are you interested in? The justice and peace studies program is awesome.
bad interview>no interview. by a mile
…Is there an applicant portal?
Shoot, I’m losing motivation for that Gtown interview. I already got accepted to 3 schools and their deposit deadlines are before the decision release date for Gtown transfer applicants.
However, I can surely say that I would hate myself for not trying. C’mon @ivyleague2 , let’s see who gets it done first!
For people who did the alumni interview, what kind of question dhave you been asked ?
What are the 3 schools accepted you ?
@mb-side It’s different compared to a freshman interview. They ask about why you’re interested in Gtown compared to your current school, what you’ve done at your current school, what you want to do after graduation, yadayada… Honestly, all of the interview prep blogs are pretty spot on abut questions. while you should prepare, you should also talk to your interviewer like a person. Don’t just spit out memorized answers. Dialogue is key to human connection! Relax and be yourself, as cliche as that sounds
Also, it’s pretty casual. Don’t overdress but look nice. Business casual?
Hi all, kinda late into the mix here but thought I’d drop my stats and see what you guys think
Currently a Sophomore majoring in International Relations
College GPA: 3.66 (almost 3.75 by end of Spring)
High School GPA: 4.3 Weighted
SATs: 1790 of 2400
Interned for Florida Democratic Party where I introduced Pres. Bill Clinton for a Hillary Rally and met Pres. Barack Obama
Interned for a Republican and Democratic congressmen
Secretary for a student organization aimed at immigrant rights
Ambassador for a national foundation aimed at political activism
Fellowship for the Washington Center Program
Letter of recommendation from my international relations professor, college advisor/campus lead, and my school’s Dean.
I honestly feel like my weakest standpoints are my SAT’s and high school GPA but I’m not quite sure how much weight they put into these. I am a DACA student so I focused my essays on what growing up undocumented in the US felt like and how it’s made me a passionate person with interests in helping others not just in the US but worldwide (I am applying for SFS). I think my essays are pretty good and the letters of recommendation hold a good amount of weight. I’m also in the works of applying for the Clinton Global Initiative and creating a non-profit organization.
Let me know what you guys think!
Hi, @Gonzalo0927 everything looks really good, but I think the only thing that will give you some friction is your college GPA - I believe the average transfer GPA is in the ~3.75 range. If you’re still waiting for a decision by the end of spring semester and have that increased GPA you should send that to their admissions office as a sign that you’re advancing
Another day closer to decisions; let’s hope they’re soon!
Anyone know how they’ll notify us? Via email, phone, mail…?
@lexluther96 Someone correct me if I am wrong, but we will hear VIA e-mail (this is going off of the transfer threads from recent years)
Little update on my part, I got admitted into George Washington University a couple days ago! It was my top backup choice if I was not admitted into Georgetown so I’m happy that I will be going to DC for sure for the rest of my undergrads! However, my deadline to show my declaration of attendance and pay GW’s deposit it May 1st. I called and they told me they would give me an extension but I’m a little worried they won’t give me till June 1st which is when GU is supposed to give their decisions. Anyone know if they send out decisions BEFORE June 1st or all are sent out on June 1st.
@Gonzalo0927 Congratulations! I am also in the same boat (except being that I live in the NoVa area). I will also ask George Washington for an extension and if things start to get tight I might ask Georgetown for an early read if May comes around and there are no decisions out yet.
From the previous years, Georgetown will start sending out transfer decisions during the entire month of May, with rejections taking over by the June 1st date.
@Robinyoursoul Thanks! There’s no portal we can check, right?
@lexluther96 No problem! I don’t think so. I am assuming that they send you and e-mail that has the decision that you open up - maybe a document that is attached to the e-mail with your decision. Excited to find out!
