None of this will have any impact on your lives unless you let it. Resilience is the hallmark of the most successful people in the world. You are all so smart and talented. Go make it happen and go back to Georgetown for you honorary doctorates.
Only rising sophomores will be considered for spring admissions.
Did they say that the chances are slim to none?
@Hanyan http://www.thehoya.com/admissions-yield-reaches-50-percent-following-lowest-ever-acceptance-rate/
“The university plans to only admit waitlisted students for the School of Nursing and Health Studies, [Dean of Undergraduate Admissions] Deacon said.”
This is for the freshmen waitlist. Every other school inside Georgetown has already exceeded their target number and the remaining seats had to be obligatorily filled by transfer students. Because they are incredibly over capacity, you can confidently infer through statistics that the chances of being admitted through a waitlist opportunity are stacked much higher than in previous years against you.
I’m a 26 year-old veteran so perhaps I see life through different lens since I’ve been working longer, but it’s time to act realistically if you’re in this position and look at the evidence presented. I’m not telling anyone to not hedge their bets on being offered a transfer spot through waitlist, but that energy is better spent on getting a good roommate and housing, getting a headstart on enrolling in classes (good/famous professors will be taken faster, it’s a fact of life, look at how fast Albright’s classes get filled at GU), and being in an optimal position to get a headstart at another school. Those options get worse with the passage of time. This admissions year at GU is demonstrably different than previous ones and using previous years as anecdotal evidence simply won’t suffice.
Well I thought they were accepting 50 sophomores off the waitlist for the spring am I wrong?
@collegeapp14 It is impossible to predict how many students will be admitted from the waitlist. The number of students admitted from the waitlist has always consistently been determined by the number of students who respond to initial offers of admission, which is again over capacity. Most colleges do not have a “waitlist enrollment number.” If they did, there wouldn’t be a waitlist. The campus admits students with the expectation that the transfer class will be filled without offering admission to students who accepted the waitlist opportunity. I would highly recommend anyone to do their deposit with their accepted school of choice and utilize their timeline for transfer students. If anyone gets into Georgetown University, being accepted off a waitlist is a commonly accepted (and ethical) reason to withdraw. Of course, you won’t get your deposit back, but that’s better than waiting until the end of summer and then being dead last for housing and enrollment and being worse off on all accounts.
And remember: don’t let this impact you! There are plenty of opportunities to go to GU for graduate school, or for some people in this thread, trying next year! Always, always, always, succeed to the best of your ability wherever you are. Once you graduate and gain 5+ years in the workforce, where you went to school is FAR less important than the work experience that you’ve gained and the person that you are then. I’ve met people who went to George Mason for four years undergraduate and now work for three-letter agencies,or people who went to Penn and Temple but ended up making the same amount of money in a GS position with the government. These scenarios play out again and again. Shoot for the highest that you can go, and if that’s the highest then succeed there. It’s simply the drive to succeed wherever you go that is one of the greatest intangible qualities.
Does anyone know who to contact to indicate a preference for the spring/fall semester if you want to be considered for both, but have a preference for one over the other?
I think you can make that clear in your letter of continued interest, but you can also call the admissions office. They are incredibly helpful
Did anyone send in an updated transcript?
did anyone receive their waitlist result?
^seconding that question
I think we had until the June 15th to respond, and then they said they’ll let us known before July 15th. So I’m guessing after tomorrow they’ll start reviewing people on the wait list
Got an email last Friday to discuss my continued interest in attending Georgetown. It asked me to call their office and when I called, they said that they would forward my application to the committee and I would receive my decision soon. Almost a week later though and I have nothing.
Anyone know what this could mean?
@georgetown999999 I would assume their reaching out is a good sign. However, I believe when they say “soon” they mean upwards of 2 weeks.
The letter said “We will be in touch with you by mail on or before July 15th” so does that mean we are getting decisions in the regular mail?
Is anyone an English major?? I haven’t seen any on this forum I don’t think…
any news?
Accepted to SFS off the waitlist today by email from admissions officer.
@georgetown999999 wow congratulations!!!
