I am applying to McDonough as well.

Im applying to the MSB, and im also studying mandarin

Applied to MSB as well and studying Farsi

ren shi ni hen gao xing TrulyCurious...just had my mandarin exam this morning.

Its weird...i checked out your stats(haha sorry i am "curious" like you) and we are very similar, SATs, all state soccer and track, club soccer, gpa, srat/frat pledge, etc..hopefully they will accept two of us because of gender difference lol.

btw..how was pledging?

lol so glad to see ppl learning chinese :)

I'm looking to take Hindi. I've taken Spanish, but only because I've been limited in language opportunities. Glad to see other people interested in McDonough...I guess.

haha, yea pleased to meet you too. I have my chinese exam tomorrow, really not ready. I had noticed our similarity as well, and were also both from the north but study in the south. I dropped out of pledging after a few weeks because i decided it just wasnt worth it. To much time commitment, $1500 dues/semester, and all the hard work wont pay of if i transfer. Although i dropped it, it was so much fun. Wish "real" GTown had a greek scene. Good luck with admissions, and maybe next year we'll be in the same chinese class.

WOW! bei ren huy chaing chong wun! Hey northerngrl, I read you're previous post and I'm taking a wild guess that you're currently studying in Wake Forest???? Am I right? =)

$1500/semester dues are insane dude.

Yeah, from what you described, the only school that fits that description is Wake.

I know a lot of people trying to transfer out of Wake. Quite a few to Georgetown as well.

yeah it really does seem like a lot of people transfer out of wake...i wonder why?

Because it's not what everyone expected...

but why specifically wake? just seems odd. i'm sure theres a good reason for it though

Alright let's dissect her post lol -

In high school I thought I was conservative, preppy, into the Southern thing because I am from the suburbs of Manhattan and was surrounded by very liberal schoolmates... (This means that the school is in the South, Wake Forest is located in Winston Salem, NC)

yeah turns out I am fairly liberal compared to the majority of students here and I am really turned off by the superficiality and ignorance that plagues this campus - top 30 university, not too tough to figure out lol. (According to US News and World Report, Wake Forest is #30 of the Top National Universities)

Unfortunately, I gave up three top 15 LAC that are much tougher to get into and have the more urbane atmosphere which I now realize I prefer. (Winston Salem is Suburban)

I never applied to Gtown...but now after experiencing college life I know DC, specifically Georgetown, is where I want to be. My school has a very strong business program - I think top 20 undergrad. (Wayne Calloway School of Business and Accountancy of Wake Forest is ranked #17 by Business Week).

with massive grade deflation (actually the grade deflation here overall is pretty bad...dean's list is only 3.0 and avg. frosh gpa=2.6) and I actually don't mind that. (Wake Forest is known for horrible grade deflation and its Dean's List requirements IS a 3.0 GPA)

But I feel like my intellectual pursuits are not understood here (they are by teachers but not by peers) nor are they stimulated by the generally apathetic student body (The Greek scene is huge in Wake Forest and could lead to an apathetic attitude towards general studies. The general student body also goes by the "Work Hard, Play Hard" attitude with more emphasis on the "Play Hard" part.)

This school also does not offer an International Business major...and since I study Mandarin that is the direction I am going. (Wake Forest does not have an undergraduate International Business major. Foreign language is a required aspect of the business school, thus, northerngrl hwey chiang chong wen!)

How on Earth did I know all this? Like northerngrl, I was also deciding between Wake Forest and another school (I was totally into Demon Deacon basketball because of Tim Duncan and Chris Paul and I wanted to throw tissue paper at the trees when they "roll the quad"). The only difference is that I didn't make the wrong decision that she made. =)

oh yeah, please don't get mad about this post northerngrl, I was just telling Elgguj why I think you're going to Wake Forest right now.

that wasnt what I was referring to...I'm sure she is talking about wake. I was referring to the fact that it seems like a lot of people transfer out of wake...just wondering why that is...its interesting. but that post answers a lot of that question too. actually theres really no reason for me to care why people transfer out of wake...but its a slightly more interesting topic than studying for my gov final lol

chance me for msb sophomore transfer

finished all prereqs.

competitive private hs
HS GPA UW ~ 91 , W 92 what does this translate to as a gpa?
Honors, 3 APs all 3s
SAT :1500/1600 , 2200/2400
Competitive university.
Fall: 19 credits Spring: 21 credits
Summer: 12 credits

College GPA: 3.94
Midterm GPA: 4.0

good essays, strong recs, unique ecs / awards , volunteer, hyperpolyglot

why yes I do attend Wake Forest...you all are so wise to decipher my not-so-cryptic description haha.

And Blackmambakatana...you say you didn't make the "wrong decision" by going to Wake....but you must have made somewhat of a wrong decision since you are transferring, right? not trying to grill you....just commenting.

And about Greek Life, I am currently in a sorority, probably considered among "top 2" (whatever that means) at Wake, but soon after rush I became really disenchanted with the whole process/system. I think frat pledging gets a little crazy and ridiculous but the bonding process is healthy, while sorority "pledging" is a little bit superficial (from my experience).

Elgguj...I think Wake has the potential to be great and I saw that when i visited. But in terms of size and social life...it can tend to feel like high school, that is, a little bit catty. I like to follow the political debates, read the news, listen to speakers on campus, and I feel that other students here are more committed to social life, looks, etc. Though I am a closet nerd...people (other than my close friends) would not classify me as such. I definitely like to
go out etc. But I also like getting an education both inside and outside of the classroom--the latter is hard to achieve at Wake.

Kash Money..you said many are applying to GTown from Wake...any to MSB?just wondering...
thanks...

I didn't know if you wanted your school revealed to everyone (considering you didn't say it outloud, but that may have been for discretion).

honestly, I made it pretty obvious on purpose, guess I wanted to maintain some level of secrecy for fun...how did you know that people transfer from wake because it doesn't turn out like they expect?are you a deac?

No, I interpreted what you said...
