Georgetown University Transfer 2019

I’m really confused about SAT Subject Tests and transfer applications. It’s clear when reviewing the requirements for admission as a first-year that you are strongly recommended to submit 3 scores.

Under the transfer applicant section there is no such requirement. You need to submit either the SAT or ACT (all sittings). Yet, I spoke with somebody from admissions and they indicated that the Subject Tests are also strongly recommended for transfers. When I differentiated between first-year and transfer candidates, the person who answered the phone paused and said it was the same. This individual did not sound very confident in her answer.

What do you guys think? I believe the website is clear…it’s a first-year condition, not applicable to transfers. But, I’m worried that, by not submitting the Subject Tests, it will hurt my chances.

@LeftyRighty16 ,
IMHO, I wouldn’t fret about the subject tests.
Have you taken them already? If you’re satisfied, send em’. I really do not think it will make or break anything,
If you really are fretting, call admissions again. You didn’t give a name or candidate number - just ask again. I’ve gotten different answers from different people at Georgetown.

If the website is clear (I can’t access it right now), I think you are golden. That is the black-and-white, period.

I hope I didn’t lose you in my rant.

@Ashtash Luckily I was able to get over my slump and write a pretty good essay. Unfortunately I totally forgot about official SAT scores and ordered a rushed score today. But the chances of them getting it by March 1 I think are slim. All that work on the app and this is my downfall… I wondering if they don’t have my scores if they won’t read my app. At least then I can re-use my essays next year

@LeftyRighty16 our daughter was admitted as a transfer student in 2017 and she definitely did not submit 3 subject test scores. Honestly don’t think she submitted any.

Whose application is totally complete? My has mostly been done since November, but for some reason it took Georgetown forever to update my portal. I sent my College Transcripts over MONTHS ago (60ish days), and my portal still isn’t updated. Should I be worried?

@Redacted1 that worries me… Have you gotten any info from past applicants? Their website sounds like the March 1st deadline is definite for all materials

@transferszn I called Georgetown admissions last night, they told me not to worry about it, but if I wanted to, to resend the transcripts. Thus, I got my institution to email my transcripts to Georgetown.

Still very anxious over where I rank in the transfer canidate pool.

I’m applying to McDonough, does anyone know if the major selections within the schools are binding for McDonough specifically, or would we be able to change majors once there if needed? I know some schools like ND only admit for the major you apply into for their business school so wasn’t sure how Georgetown worked.

bvbchamps,

I believe (but am not sure) that you can change your major if you are applying as a rising sophomore. MSB students are not required to select a major until the end of their sophomore year. The form for declaring a major as a MSB student provides the option to add and delete majors at McDonough.

I assumed we can change our mind up until second semester of sophomore year. You can even add a second major…

@Redacted1 Contact them. If you sent it I don’t think they’d penalize you for someone else’s mistake.

@Redacted1 Just saw you already contacted them. Did they say they hadn’t received them?

Does anyone else know their transcript was sent awhile ago, but it’s not showing up as received on their portal?

@Ashtash , I think a few people are. They said they haven’t received it - but not to worry. Another officer said to resubmit the transcripts. I coughed up the 10 bucks and had them sent via email to Georgetown.

Also, realized I made a BIG oopsie. Unfortunately there is no way to check what essays I have submitted, and due to an error, I believe I have submitted the wrong essay for the second prompt (the why will the SFS be a good fit for you prompt).

Just to be safe, I sent the correct essay to applicationmaterials@georgetown.edu.

I sent both my high school and college transcripts over a month ago. My plan was to wait until March 1st and see if I get a “missing documents” email, but I did not get one. I’ll just wait a couple of days and see if I get one and if I don’t, I’ll call to double check.

@Redacted1 Ah, I see. I called them and they said that it won’t affect your application at all if materials like transcripts are turned in late. The website says they prefer mailed transcripts, but when I called she say they prefer electronic…I don’t even know. I went ahead and sent another transcript electronically just in case the mailed one got lost in the mail

Just submitted my application for SFS yesterday, the why SFS essay is pretty good. The essay on diversity is where I messed up. I sent a paper with errors, one sentence is missing a word and I swear I’m about to email them the one without the errors. Should I or do I just leave and hope my gpa credentials speak for me?

I submitted everything yesterday but two of my recommender’s have not submitted their letters, is this problematic?

@yitsmith It’s not your fault, but just contact them & try to get it in ASAP

Hi everyone.
I submitted my application on Feb 28th, and since then I’ve been feeling extremely anxious about my application… I’m worried that I submitted the wrong Georgetown essays, like accidentally alternated them. I did read my application before I sent it, but I felt so rushed because part of me thought that it was due at midnight before the 1st… so I just skimmed through…
RIGHT as I was about to submit, everyone’s nightmare happened: my wifi turned off because my phone had died and lost hotspot connection… So i quickly got onto my wifi in my home and submitted.
I’m just REALLY hoping that like I didn’t leave any part blank… Like I’m so nervous I hope the “Talents and Skills” is there.
I think I’m just freaking myself out.

I know on Common App you are free to download a pdf of your application whenever you want.
Does anyone know if Georgetown allows applicants to view their application (obviously without being able to edit…)?

I don’t see anything on their status page when I log in to the supplemental application…
And I just feel so horribly embarrassed to call them ask about my application. Like that would not be wise. I couldn’t just say “Did i fill everything out?”

I just want like an ounce of reassurance, like a pdf of my app, and I will be SO relieved.

What did you end up doing? @polyscidreamer
