Georgetown University Transfer 2019

Hi everyone, I know it’s late and probably many of you no longer look at this thread but I wanted to see if anyone could chance me for GU.

College GPA (Kelley School of Business at IU): 3.55 (I know wayyy lower than the average, I explained to them kind of what has happened)
HS GPA: 3.8/4.0 5.0/5.5
HS EC: Student Body President (Student Council), 4-year letter winner in Golf and Track, started a club called Politics and Pizza.
College EC: former secretary of IU Legal Studies Club, Kelley Student Government
Work Experience: former server at First Watch Restaurants, Summer job shadow with a county judge, Summer internship with local law firm.

I know that my college academics are far lower than nearly all of you which I figure to be the biggest roadblock trying to gain admission. I was curious to know whether or not you all thought that my intended major (history in Georgetown College) will play any effect into my admission chances: history is a dying major and one of the rarest for students to pursue. I happen to absolutely love history and feel it’s a good foundation for a JD in the future. I wrote a lot about how I struggled with business because it’s not something I’m truly passionate about and then cited some examples I why I feel so strongly about history.

Good luck to everyone. I am sure that whether or not you get accepted you all have the chance to pursue a high level education and live fruitful lives!

Hey everyone! I’m also applying to transfer to Georgetown (SFS, rising junior). I applied regular decision in high school (2 years ago) and didn’t send my SAT/ACT scores this time around because the admissions website said that they would be on file if you had applied in the last two years. When they didn’t show up in my application portal, I called the admissions office, and the lady there told me that they weren’t actually on file because Georgetown got a new document management system about a year ago.

If you’re like me and assumed that they would have your scores on file, I’d definitely recommend calling them to make sure they do!! Good luck!

Applied to GU as a transfer applicant for this coming fall.

Community College: 4.0 gpa (42 credits)
Extra activities: working two full time jobs, internship with Elizabeth Warren, member of Phi Theta, member of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Honors Program, Deans list for four semesters in a row, Spanish club, bible study club, volunteer at local shelters,

High school: 3.4 GPA
SAT’s: 1,000
Extras: Barack Obama community service recognition, National Speech and Debate league, State finalists, top 20% of my class, over 600 community service hours…

Also just had two interviews with GT!

Also applied to Cornell, NYU, George Washington, American University, Yale, UPENN, Columbia and Tufts.

I sent in my college transcript on 2/28 via parchment but it still hasn’t showed up on the transfer application yet.
should I contact Georgetown?

@99shujw I called them last week and they said they’re still processing a lot of documents. I would wait until around Thursday or Friday. If it’s still not there then call them

thank you!

I received an email about a month ago saying I had not received an interview. I know an interview is not required for transfer students, but does anyone know if not receiving an interview hurts my admissions chances?

just wanted to let y’all know, I’m currently a student here and I’m trying to transfer out so hopefully one of y’all can take my place lmao

@dabbey310 why are you transferring out?

@collegen98 I just dececided to let it go. I’m hoping my overall application was strong enough to bring me up and make me stand out. I hope so.

Probably forgetting a few other extracurriculars that i put on my app but all that seems about right. Also have situational hardship that i spoke on in my essays, not sure if that takes my application one way or the other.
Thank you guys for taking the time to read my information and God bless. Best of luck to all of you!

@ethanissavage Your SAT is low for Georgetown, but the rest of your app looks good, so I wouldn’t let that get you down

@wantstogotoharvd No, based on previous years it’s more of a rolling basis. I think the earliest I saw someone receive admission from last year was around the last week of April. It also seems to be in waves based on major (sometimes, but not always). People did find out into June, although, it seems that those that found out later were either waitlisted or denied

Hi all,

I’ve been looking through these forums for forever, but I never made an account. However, I decided to do so after reading through this thread to meet other applicants.

My stats:
Asian, first-gen, female, US. I’ll be applying as a premed junior.

HIGH SCHOOL
GPA: unweighted 4.0, weighted 4.3
I did a few IB classes (chemistry, biology, exercise science), AP (statistics), and dual enrollment (English and electives).

EC’s & Awards:
I was in every honor society (French, art, history, science, English, math, the regular honor society). I was the president of two. Was captain of the science bowl team. Did over 400 hours of community service throughout HS. I also won awards like district and state science fairs, as well as distract and state national history day projects. I received student of the year, student of the month, always got all A+ honor roll. I was in my school’s honor court as the clerk. I also had things like editor in chief for the school paper too.

SAT (new one): 1200 . The weakest point of my application, but I just took the march SAT, and they would accept my score. I did this late junior year of HS.

COLLEGE: Community college.

In the honors program, completed curriculum in two semesters (did two semesters of all honors classes)
GPA: 4.0
HOURS: completed well over 55, should have 71 by the time I’m done. I did full time school over the summer.
EC’s: President of honor society, in NSCS, PTK, and a few other clubs.
I’m also a Red Cross volunteer. (as well as local homeless shelters).
National representative for my school’s honors program
Mentor for HS seniors, Essay editor, and physics tutor (all free/volunteered).
Earned prestigious medal from college
Student of the Year
Presidential scholar every semester
Founder of a small organization that helps local (city-wide) groups.

Letters of rec came from…
-Advisor / bio prof
-Honor Society advisor / Eng prof
-President of college

The best part about my application are my essays. 2 are entertaining, and the other is known to be a tear-jerker. I wrote about how I hate spending money, and used unconventional methods to solve a problem in my local (school) community and expanded it to my city/other cities (still local but bigger). I wrote an essay about driving!

Also, I interviewed a few weeks ago. The interview went great!

Also applied to:
-UVA
-GWU
-Princeton
-Harvard
-Hopkins
-Yale
-Columbia

Tick Tock, the waiting sucks!
