The week after May 1 I think.
Question: Georgia Tech is known for being a grind: a high volume of difficult work. I wonder if anything can be done to ease this a bit in semester 1.
Is anyone familiar with classes incoming freshman try to knock off at a local university before enrolling in the Fall at GT? A tour guide mentioned a brutal calc course that kicks everyoneās butt freshman year- and he said in hindsight he would have done it elsewhereā¦
thanks!
Not sure I would describe Georgia Tech as a grind, but my Georgia Tech senior has typically taken no more than 14 hours and he started out with 13 in the fall of first year. At orientation, in the civil engineering breakout session the advisor recommended taking 12 or 13 hours your first semester. Many kids come in with enough AP or dual enrollment credit that they continue this in subsequent semesters.
Iām not a big fan of taking foundational classes at other schools, particularly something like calculus as most engineering majors will then need to take multivariable calculus and linear algebra. Without a strong calculus foundation, those classes will be extraordinarily difficult. There is lots of academic support at Georgia Tech for kids who want to take advantage of it, particularly in math.
I agree with the foundational classes- I was thinking more or knocking out an English class or Humanities.
Most likely waitlist will be closed by the end of May. Once everyone deposit on May 1st they will check against goals and may accept few more people. Them they are done.login
If I am not missing you canāt take classes the summer before freshman year. You can take as many as you like the summer after freshman year at other colleges as long as they transfer. Check Oscar transfer credits portal before doing it!
The most famous killer is Physics. Many students transfer it.
Yes definitely check on whether you can take summer classes before freshman year. At a lot of schools that will mark you as a transfer student. Most schools donāt allow it unless you enroll in summer session at their school.
I would not describe GT as a grind. DS took 18 hours his first semester, then 21 and 21ā¦grades at GT are very inflated. Not to say there have not been some tough courses but it is not crazy hard by any means, and certainly not a grind. It is very manageable as DS is quite involved in other activities. He is not an outlier as many of his friends are similar.
I disagree.
The GT waitlist update email they sent yesterday was such bait almostā¦
The title was āGeorgia Tech Waitlist Updatesā
We paid the $250 deposit and filled the housing application. How do we pay the housing deposit? The portal does not show any deposit due. Are we supposed to pay the $80 now? How do we pay it if the portal says you donāt have any amount due at this time?
Have your child check the bursar page. It will show up there eventually if it is not there now. Your child can also set up the parent pay option which is very helpful and allows you to have your own login to pay bills and fees. They will also email you when you have a balance due. Itās about the only thing the parents have access to!
Thank you!
anyone from Frisco Texas joining GT?
Hi! GT senior. it will be posted in your first bill when you are paying it (right before classes start), not in advance
Thanks!
Thanks.
has the waitlist come out yet?
