Thank you so much @VirginiaBelle for clarifying this. I appreciate your insight tremendously.

Best of luck to you. My kid was in the same boat and ended up at UGA and is very happy along with many others. He was waitlisted at Tech and planned on transferring and had a transfer pathway. Planned all of his fall classes to meet the requirements and a month in he declared he was staying where he was. He is a business major but his engineering roommate did the same. Wishing the best for your kid!

Are the chances for getting accepted off the waitlist really low for an in-state Biology major?

It is a tricky question. GaTech does 4 things (based on my experience):

  1. balance # of Ga residents (since it has to due to state mandate)
  2. balance majors (so all not will be CS, aerospace etc :)), even though they technically do not admit by major and students can change one.
  3. Once 1 and 2 are addressed they go to OOS full pay students to balance their books, so full pay OOS students have a better chance to be accepted from the waitlist.
  4. they also look at gender and geography.
So if you are a girl for art major from Alaska full pay and LEGACY (pretty much a nod that student takes it seriously), you have a better chance than a local boy.
I do not have an official inside, but this is from my experience observing how they deal with the waitlist.
And all of the above is done based on commitments that they get.

(Accepted RD) Has anyone received notifications of Provost Scholarships yet/have an expected release date? Iā€™m hopeful and anxious to find out how much GT will cost meā€¦

Being in state may help. Being a Biology major may help. Impossible to know. Depends on in state yield.

My sonā€™s financial aid letter is in his portal. I got an email about it today. I also saw on Instagram that Georgia Tech is rolling out financial aid packages so you should know something in the next day or two.

Last year, the acceptance rate off the Georgia Tech waitlist was less than 1% (41 students out of 4900+) My advice is to count it as an no and get excited about where you will be going in the fall. If you are one of the very fortunate ones who get off the wait list, then you can change course at that point, but donā€™t wait on the waitlist decision before getting excited about where you commit

where are Instagram are you seeing this?

It wasnā€™t Instagram, it was Georgia Tech admissions on Twitter. Financial aid is being rolled out and will be complete by Thursday and available in Oscar. Once your letter is available you will get an email. https://twitter.com/gtadmission/status/1642908177531297792?s=46&t=7BtZUEkc4D83LAi1V6rQ2g

Thanks. Thought I had missed it.
And thanks for so many contributions about GTech.

Any CLASS2027 from Dallas/Frisco/Plano, TX admitted and planning to go to GT?

Does anybody know when did GT close the wait-list offers last year or year prior ?

The GT page says ā€œIn early May, after our deposit deadline, we will determine if we have met our class goal and contact you if space becomes availableā€.

Does that mean waitlist results should start rolling out in early May, or will they start deciding in early May and results will come out in June/July?

Our daughter was accepted into Industrial Engineering for the fall, but is still undecided on major and would like to explore a bit in her freshman year.
Does anyone know whether it is possible for her to switch to another major in the school of engineering? How about into the school of computing? And how long can she wait to decide?

early may

Follow both Rick Clark and GT admissions on Twitter. Not sure about last year but two years ago Rick Clark announced every time they took people off of the wait list. There were several groups of 50. Last year was a much smaller group so not sure whether they did it then or not
