GW 2022 RD

@Daisy0114 Shocking to say the least. Where was your son accepted? I thought my daughter’s 1460 SAT and other positives would’ve given her an ample cushion.

waitlisted, kinda surprised
4.05 gpa
32 act
a lot of leadership in ec’s, captain of swim team, has run multiple community service initiatives

Hands down - UVA. GWU is the biggest rip off there is. I live and work in DC and have for 30 years. Went to college here as well. There is absolutely nothing special about GWU. The 25K in financial aid is not even half the tuition room and board costs - plus the costs of living in DC which is becoming increasingly expensive. Off campus housing which you will likely be forced into by junior year if not sooner will run you $2500 a month if you can find it. You will be crushed with debt unless your parents or some other relatives are paying for it. The only thing GWU is actually known for is Engineering, but UVA Engineering is superior anyway.

@DavidHopkins , son was accepted to Fordham’s Gabelli School of Business with merit and grant, Boston University’s business school with big grant, RPI with Leadership Scholarship, Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business with merit scholarship, UMD’s Smith School with no money, Penn States’s Smeal with no money, Binghamton’s SOM school( we are in NY).
Waitlisted at Villanova business school, William and Mary and now GW.

@MoSwimmer66 On campus housing is required for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors so that statement is wrong. GW’s cost of attendance is about $73k a year which is very expensive but on par with Tulane, the Ivies, NYU, WUSTL, and Northwestern to name a few). I agree you should not go if you cannot afford it, but that goes for any school. GW is known for political science and international relations as well.

GW is abnormally expensive for literally no reason

Waitlisted  kinda sucks cause GW was one of my tops and I was super excited about it and hoping to get in. Stayed on the list in hopes that I might get in but I probably won’t cause of the amount of people they wait list. However still have lots to choose from AU, BU, Fordham, USD, WPI, so not the end of the world but still pretty bummed.

@Kd6410 Yes GW’s costs are on par with a lot of schools, but their financial aid is so much worse. GW was one of my top choices but they offered me at least 10K less than the most expensive offer I’ve received so far, and didn’t come close to meeting demonstrated need.

I withdrew my application back in February yet still received a decision today…???

Is GW worth it? I got in with a $22k scholarship for IB. History major. 1380 SAT. Created the debate club at my school that is winning most tournament (student-run no coach) was selected for the American Auxiliary Legion Texas Girl’s State, and participated in NIAHD at the College of William and Mary. I got waitlisted at Boston College and William and Mary but I also got accepted to A&M University Honors and UT Austin. Not sure what to do. Thoughts?

@Jillianrlong If you’re in state I would go to UT - super awesome school and cheap in state tuition

Accepted at Elliot with Presidential Scholarship- 33 ACT, 4.2 GPA, National Merit Finalist and a boatload of extracurriculars. Also accepted at BU, Fordham, and GMU; Waitlisted at AU and Northeastern. Super excited!! @ipemang if you could add me to the GroupMe as well, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

D was accepted with a $14K a year Presidential academic scholarship into the Elliot School (she eventually wants to transfer to the Milken School of Public Health because you can’t apply there as a freshman)! She applied test optional with a 3.7W/5.08Uw GPA, 11 APs, an A grade in her summer Johns Hopkins U class, an internship shadowing a doctor at the Johns Hopkins Hospital AIDS clinic, NHS, lead in the HS play as a freshman, 4 years of basketball (team won a national title), BBYO leadership positions, several paying jobs, etc.

Also accepted to: U of Miami, U of Maryland/College Park, UofSC,College of Charleston, Tulane ( only a guaranteed transfer acceptance for 2019)
Still awaiting: University of Michigan

Will my acceptance letter say that I was accept to the SMPA (political communications)? It says i was accepted to Columbian so does that mean I got into my second choice (political science)?

DD accepted with $25,000 Presidential Scholarship.

She is a legacy with admissions already to Smith, Mt. Holyoke, Grinnell, Wellesley, Bryn Mawr, Haverford.

@Kd6410 Why would you have to live at the Vern?

Waitlisted, 27 ACT and 3.8 GPA. They sent me an application waiver so I just wanted to see if I could get in. Good luck to all

Accepted with $22,000 Presidential Scholarship and great financial aid!
1410 SAT
4.0 WGPA
Average Extracurriculars
Strong Essays
I’m very happy given that within the span of 5 days last week I was denied at BC, BU, and waitlisted at American! Deciding between GW and Pitt.

@mamatojjandkk If you’re in the WLP you have to live on the Vern

@Kd6410 Cool cool. Tbh i don’t really like UT’s campus/atmosphere so thats the only reason I have not committed. I really like A&M but UT is better for law.
