I am confused by @jkim3265 's comment that the “mid-term report” is required for transfer applicants, when the recently corrected transfer website says it is optional.
I do not plan on sending the report; this confusion seems to have been started by the typo visible on the applicant website until a few days ago which said the “mid-year report” was due by April 1st. After emailing CommonApp and confirming that this was only for regular admissions students (they were very surprised that the Harvard website said that), it is apparent from their response that there is no “mid-year report” due for transfer applicants.
Even before this correction on the Harvard applicant website, it had listed the “mid-term report” in the list below as optional. I don’t intend on sending it; I am interested in @jkim3265 's insinuation that that might reflect negatively on the application. I was wondering how it could do any harm, given the fact that it is clearly stated to be optional. Does anyone else have an opinion on or source information about the effect of omitting the mid-term report from the application?
“I was wondering how it could do any harm, given the fact that it is clearly stated to be optional.”
My reasoning is this: you apply to Harvard, and the things you omit that becomes a given for everyone else to submit hurt rather than abstain in neutrality. They don’t hurt your application (how could it, if it isn’t reported), but your application is playing a competitive game of relativity.
“Generally, we do not conduct interviews for transfer applicants. Should the Admissions Committee need more information, our office will contact you. Transfer students may not schedule or request their own interviews.”
I just had my interview. The woman I spoke with was very warm and probably one of the most intelligent people I have ever interacted with. Does anybody know what getting an interview means/how many people they offer interviews to?
@gigiwave123 wow, I think that’s good! What are some questions that she asked, and how were you asked for an interview? Has anyone else received interview requests?
I believe the emails for interviews went out last Wednesday, they may still be trickling out. The interview was less like college interviews I have had in the past where there were direct many questions, it was more like a conversation about my interests. It was very natural and straightforward. Definitely no questions like “what are three adjectives to describe you” or “if you were a fruit which one would you be”.
@gigiwave123 Congrats on having the interview; would you mind posting some of your application stats? I am sure this would appease the curiosity of many members reading this
Had my interview today at 3 pm. Interviewed with Yale in the morning and I can honestly say it was one of the most stressful days of my life. The interviewer did make clear (without prompting) that although his insight into admissions decisions is really limited, he’s inclined to think this is a good sign for me, but that the odds are still small.
To people who weren’t interviewed: if generally the people who got in got interviewed, they would just say “we do interviews for transfers”. So probably lots of the admits don’t get interviews and the shift in chances is something like 0.001%.
