HKU or HKUST

Anyway, dq - have you decided where you are going to next year?

this year for me not next year lol.

Most probably UST because I am pretty much sure NUS will reject me sobs

wow the grand you need to chill out.
I was not saying anything negative about Kong U, UST or Harvard MIT. Every school has some sort of stereotype, and I was just pointing out what I observed from my friends who attend UST and Kong U. Dont be offended if those stereotypes are not accurate.
Saying someone from Purdue is a wast of resource isn’t nice either.

Actually I have to agree that UST ppl are more academic-oriented. They have a lot of mainlanders. Besides, UST is in Clear Water Bay ,which is kind of isolated from the outside world’s distraction. But I don’t think HKU are full of rich ppl, b/c most of the rich kids in HK choose to study oversea.

HKU:
TheGrand - BBA(IBGM)
michelleger - BSc
SDG1 - BBA econ/fin

HKUST:
ysbera - BEng & BBA(Technology and Management)
merrypips - BBA
spillcanvas - BBA(Global Business)
Donutz - BBA

In case anyone else wants to update that list! =]

Anyways, regarding HKUST and HKU. Both are really GREAT schools. Just choose one based on where you want to go. Ranks and all that jazz are also important when deciding on an university, but it’s not like the quality of both schools greatly differ. Again, they both are amazing schools in different ways.

But aside from that, any of you guys planning to use macs in HK? If I was going to the States, then I wouldn’t even worry about it but some of my friends were talking about how in Asia, macs are still not that convenient or something. I would really want a mac though… I mean you can switch to windows anytime and the design is oh so pretty.

@hoffman: It’s just that too many people just come blurting in with a one/two line comment without substantiation or explanation - it just infuriates me.

And by the way, I never said a person coming from Purdue would be a waste, I said it would be a waste if a person cannot utilise all the oppts and resources a uni such as Purdue can provide.

@merrypips: I think macs are fine in Hong Kong. Plenty of people use it. But to be honest, I think more people are choosing it - just 'cause it looks prettier and not because of its practicality. That’s basically the main reason that all my friends would choose it over a PC.

@TheGrand: haha I’m one of the people who chose it because it looks “prettier” =] Yeah, I heard a lot of bad things about macs but that was coming from gamers and some hard-core computer people. But from normal users, I hear macs are pretty cool and not as bad as people make it out to be lol And I don’t really play games or anything so I guess I’ll get a mac for uni haha. thanks for the insight though! I didn’t know a lot of people used macs in HK.

@anybody

Hi, I would just like to ask does anybody have any tips on how to comment on diction and syntax for English Paper 1? Especially for prose passage and syntax? I am not really sure how you can comment on how the syntax, length of a sentence helps reflect meaning or etc.

Oh Macs are really easy to use but in my opinion they are too expensive.

Um. No clue - don’t do A1 Eng.

Back to Math…

WHEN will HKUST regular action decisions come out!?!?? Tired of waiting and praying!!

I thought most people got their decisions already - well I think only acceptances… so it ** may ** imply that those who haven’t received their decision are…

OMG…
did I just hear that word again?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH
:(

Do you guys know that HK is going to implement 4-yrs undergrad in 2012? I am assuming that we wont be affected right, since we’ll grad in 2012…

SDG1: yeah I read about that from the brochure HKUST gave me lol I like it how for us it’ll still be only three years though…=] or is it just me haha

“In 2004/2005, the most far-reaching change in Hong Kong’s universities educational framework for two generations was initiated. This review is being prompted by a change to the secondary school curriculum across Hong Kong which will be shortened from seven to six years. As a consequence of this, the normative length of the undergraduate university curriculum is being expanded from three to four years. The new “3+3+4” academic structure will commence at senior secondary level in 2009, with the first admissions to the new undergraduate curriculum being in 2012”

Well, so we get to save one year of time and fees yay. It will not affect us at all since for undergraduate level is it only applicable from 2012 onwards.

i got in to hkust,
please send me message if you are going

Just so this doesn’t sink

^I heard HKUST is full of nerds just like NUS. How do you still expect to get an active social life there?

With a undergrad population of 9000 students, I bet there are still fun people.

It just depends on what you do with your time there - you can stay in a room and study all you like, or walk out of your door and socialise - since such generalisations is not applicable to ALL the people in the university - you might just have to try comparatively harder in HKUST.
