@thegrand do u know what about the business faculty rankings? i dun seem to be able to find them on the website.

cool.

Done with P3 Math - Series and Differentials
Now one more subject to go, then I am done. I have really no idea how I did for my IB right now, but I know I didn’t do as well as I did for my mocks…

Hah I love this : “even if I have one” so true…

P3 Math was nuts for Statistics and Probability.
There’s this 14 mark question which NOBODY could solve -_-

@friday: There isn’t one specific category for business. You could look under Humanities/Social Sciences.

Oh, I just have one subject left.

That doesn’t sound good. Series and Differential was ok, my class did every single question.

But yea I don’t really understand how the overall grade is calculated. Lets say 80% for P1 is 7, 75% for P2, 74% for P3 and 80% for Portfolios. Even if one person got 7 on all of them independently and uses this way lets say 0.7 (percentage for one independent paper) x 0.3 (overall weight of paper), the total does not add up to 80% (overall grade boundary for a 7). Do you know how they calculate overall scores?

hey, just curious, but could your tell me how difficult it is to enter HKU? im an international student from Singapore…also, how important is chinese results when applying? i failed my equivalent of HKCEE for chinese in the national examinations because i was sick but i was scoring A’s and B’s all along…

p.s. would it help if i was a Hong Kong Citizen uptill 97?

I can’t really help but in my opinion its not really about how hard is it to enter HKU in general but how hard is it to enter your chosen course. Some courses will have much higher requirements than others due to competition. If you are applying for a easier course, your requirements will be much lower than a more competitive course. For example for a easier less competitive course your IB offer might be around 30 while if you are applying for a competitive course it might 38>.

I don’t know how important Chinese is but English is very important as your courses will be taught in English. The standard entry requirements usually include some kind of English proficiency. Whether it is a certain score on the TOEFL, IB, Ielts, SAT and etc.

I don’t think being HK citizen before will necessarily help because they want diversity.

Yup, being a HK Citizen certainly doesn’t help your chances, since they are looking for diversity. HKU certainly wouldn’t be impressed that you did not pass your Chinese, but again, they look at your overall rigor and results. And it highly depends on which course you are applying to, because it really ranges - as ysbera said.

For statistics and prob. I’m speculating that a 74+ is a 7.

Hey everyone, I applyed to HKUST BBA program! However I didn’t receive my decision yet, they said its going to come end of May. My predicted IB grade is 38 and my IELTS score is 8.0. What do you guys think of my chances of going in?

That sounds fine. Where country/nationality are applying from? That could make a difference. If I am not wrong, the typical offer for the BBA program is 33 points.

okay, i just double checked about the orientation things and i dont know where i got the aug.21st from, well actually i do. last year on aug 21st there was some sort of like warmup induction day for nonlocals. so i remembered that date thinking i had to be in HK before then. but then i checked the dates for hall orientations beginning, and last year most if not all began aug.24-aug 31st. but i think dorms open a little earlier so you can get set up.

thegrand, im really excited to pick a hall, i hope i get to go to a good one! …because the whole hall culture sounds so fun and interesting(really unifies people!), altho it could be exhausting the orientation week, its almost like hazing =P but im counting my eggs before they hatch a little bit…cant help it =D

and everyone! take a look at this guide CEDARS published for 09-10, its for international students and is just like a helpful little pdf booklet. —> http://cedars.hku.hk/nonlocal/publication/prepguide0910.pdf

@DragoonPK: I think stats wise, you’re fine but I’m not so sure since they do have a limited number of students they accept each year. When did you apply btw? I have a slightly lower IB score than you and I took the TOEFL but I got in. Then again, I applied in the beginning of December…GOOD LUCK !

Hi, I am from Bahrain. Its a small country in the middle east I guess they don’t have many any people from that area, so it might give me an edge!

I applied at the beginning of March!

@Dragoon: Hm, isn’t beginning of March after the deadline? I’m not sure about this since I didn’t apply to HKUST, but if you are from Bahrain, with your scores, I’m pretty positive they’ll admit you :)

@michelleger: I can REALLY sense your excitement - a little silly question. When does school start? LOL
I know I sound ridiculous, but I’m still in the middle of exams to get too excited researching about my university.

The deadline was 31st of march xD!

HKUST took 4 months to give me my decision. Applied Dec, got it April. So maybe you should wait a little more.

@thegrand- The official first day of classes is scheduled as September 1st. But again, if you want to participate in hall orientation that will prbably start like late august sometime =D

WHAT. LOL I wanted to apply to HKUST’s Global Business at the end of Jan and I thought it was the deadline ALREADY so I didn’t apply!!! LOOOOOOOOL
Well I guess i’m settled with HKU anyway!

Thanks Michelle, got that in my head :D

If I go to HKUST I need to be there at Aug 15 for orientation. My holiday is only going to be 2 months… I should just go to the UK for a 4 month holiday.

Too much holiday isn’t that great actually…
